429/460 Ford valve covers are close to BBC. Some folks would put BBC covers on them back in the day. I had a set of SBC covers with the Ford script on them....worth a look.

  2. Ha! I know some folks that would go through the efforts just to screw with people at the shows. These would be awesome if they end up fitting a BBF, Ha!
to the OP, get busy and see what they fit, damn interesting set of covers you found there....heck, they may be super rare race goodies like mentioned previously.

    Photo of your heads?

They look like standard size in the pics, difficult to tell without a tape measure or gasket nearby.

Maybe they were cast and didn't make it through quality control and were handed off as seconds.
As for the comment about falcongeorge about not helping hot rodders out, I suggest you check out his postings. He is extremely knowledgeable concerning the mechanics of building hot rods and the history of hot rodding which he shares with us on this site.
And like Don said, he was just joking with you.

Even if they were sand casted off the production made aftermarket, the would have a 3% shrinkage, but cant understand the .5" larger. Might have been prototype or casting blems? Wish he would have caught that before polishing.

I think we need a motor picture......does it have some sort of aftermarket heads? or a 455 or a 500 caddy?

big duece had the right picture - maneri had the maker, PLM - yourcovers.com - so, ask them what they should fit/why they do not fit

  12. Hell George never helps me out, I been waiting for him to send me money for as long as I have known him. :D

I am going to step way out on a limb here and make my self look dumber than everyone else. It seems to me that thee is some sort of exotic Pontiac head thing that works on a chevy block, or else maybe I dreamed it. Any chance that those are what they fit? or perhaps they are for some sort of after market head, like some sort of a brodix oddball. I know that some of the manufacturers make GM heads that nothing but stuff that you can buy from them only will bolt on like intakes headers and etc.

Don't really have an answer but maybe that's why they ended up at the swapmeet. Please don't critique my grammar either. But if I saw these at a swap meet I probably would have snagged them also. I'd love to see how this pans out. yruhot.

  15. I know why they don't fit, I just figured it out.

You can't put big block chevy rocker covers on one of these. :D

How many times have I told you benno, cheques in the mail...:D Brodix are all the same bolt pattern as BBC, until you get into the Big Duke stuff. I don't think anybody makes "Corvette" logo valve covers for the spread port stuff.

Big chief heads have 4 bolts across the top like the bottom. I actually posted that earlier then edited it after refreshing my memory on the bolt holes.

Pretty sure the DRCE heads have 4 bolts across the top like the other spread port heads. Looks like Swade and I were typing at the same time...

Gotta wonder why this hole has been wallowed out...

I too would like to see the motor these aren't fitting on.

These aren't DRCE/Big Chief/Big Duke ect. Those are all spread port heads, and have 4 valve cover bolts on the top row, not 3.

One hole is all wallowed out, and this one looks like it may have been welded up, ground down and re-drilled?

IMHO, I don't think these fit on ANYTHING, looks like a f*ck-up to me...They look too long as well, or is that an optical illusion?

If its any consolation, 990's are good heads, under-rated nowadays, I've made 770 hp with them with 2.25s and some light porting and a single 4bbl...

Stupid computer, I think George meant to say "wallored" out.
Maybe a south of the border misunderstanding.
