I've always wanted to get his "Best Damn Garage in Town" book, but the cost is more than I'm ready to spend right now. I noticed on Ebay, some folks selling smaller, likely soft cover, versions for 24 bucks. He says it has all the same content as the expensive one, just in a cheap package. Is the book worth reading?
Supposed to be the same text, fewer pictures. I bought one cheap off Ebay, havn't got it yet. Also check Half.com
I was able to get a copy from the Library. Heavy profanity and tons of chasing women stories however I have to say I think he told it exactly the way it was. Interesting that he spent the last years of his life chasing renewable energy and high efficiency uses of energy and concluded none of them were going to compete with cheap oil. He was one smart colorful man.
Like said it's actually a three book collection. It covers every aspect of Smokeys colorful career and he pulls no punches. It's been said he probably willed himself to stay alive at least a year longer than expected just to finish writing it. When it first came out I knew I wanted it but the price was out of reach. Then Christmas rolled around some years ago and under the tree "the best damn wife in the world" placed a package that contained the sacred journals under the tree. When I started reading them I couldn't put them down. I only took a break between volumns and fully intend to reread them again soon. Frank
Also available is a six cd set, kinda Books on CD thing. You play the complete set on the trip to Bonneville, it ends somewhere between Ely and Wendover. DW
I brought the book with me to the Bahamas last year. I could barely put it down long enough to check out the eye candy. Great book. The section on his WWII Experience reminds you of how great his generation really was. That is one guy I wish I could've met.
