Is there anyone who has "modern rear shocks" with the original rear crossmember on the chassis ?

I've seen the way Mart did it on his '33 survivor, but i want to see some variations...

I have 48 tube shock mounts on my Columbia rear end in my 32... I run a 40 rear crossmember that is flattened but it would mount in the same place as stock. I'll look for a picture post number 78 on page 4 under my build thread bellow

 

Mounting tube shocks with a '32 rear crossmember is a VERY TIGHT operation. I used the shortest shocks I could find, but I wanted them to have shrouds. There is about a quarter inch from axle to shock and then shock to crossmember. I made a bolt-on mount to the crossmember and a bolt-on mount to the wishbone-to-axle bolts.

 

@ Alchemy, do you have any photos of the set up and the shocks are of what type of car ?

Neal in LA, you cleaned up an otherwise laughable and obviously dangerous build. If that shit is what "tradition" was, screw it. Your car looks healthy now, and should be a fun, safe ride. What you now have is real "tradition".

Some really nice stuff and a great thread in a limited kind of way. It seems that in the beginning it was about traditional rods through the 60s and rapidly turned rods with closed drive lines. Once you remove the torque tube something has to replace it. There were a lot of rods from the mid 50s through the mid 60s that had open drive lines. Basically when you remove the torque tube the Ford set up changes from a well designed suspension to a poorly designed triangulated 4 bar if you run the bones back near the center or a more poorly designed parallel 4 bar if you split them. Either way you have to add something that the traditional police will give you a ticket for. Good stuff anyway and some great workmanship.

Here is an older pic of my original '32 Ford chassis. Has had a '30-31 chopped Model A Tudor on the frame, a '31 Model A roadster body, and now a Brookville '32 Roadster body.
