Should you or can you use umbrella seals with double valve springs, not the active ones but the ones that ride up and down with the valve. If you can is it necessary to use the o-ring seal? I have Sportsman II heads on my gm 350.

Usually a double spring won't have enough room for an umbrella seal. If you don't have the original cup over the top of the spring, the O ring seal won't do much.

Thanks squirrel. These are after market heads, roller rockers and double valve springs. When I took the rocker and spring off, the only thing that was being used is the o-ring on the valve.

Normal method of sealing is to use a positive seal that slips over the outside of the guide.

there are different styles, and you have to make sure the dimensions are all correct, and that there's enough room between the retainer and the seal at full lift, so it doesn't hit and destroy the seal.

I would have to get the valve guide boss turned down to use the positive seals, they are currently .570 I think they need to be .530. Thanks for you comments
