My father picked up a column and steering box for a new build out of a 63 Plymouth Savoy. The box needs rebuilt. The catch is its a aluminum manual box and all we can find kits for are power. Any ideas were we can find a kit. Thanks

Thanks, I don't have a pic. Apparently not many have the aluminum steering box. I'll give them a jingle. Thanks

What makes you think it needs to be rebuilt? If it needs more than seals and maybe a bushing, then you probably need to find another box to rebuild.

    rockauto has the two seals...

  6. The aluminum box was the most common box through the muscle car era. They are hard to get kits for these days. I think I can find the pieces to rebuild one if it needs it.

The iron box was the hard one to come by and a few years back that was what all the big block guys wanted at least around here.

Are the needle bearings bad? I'd reuse them if they're still ok. And I'd check the wear on the bushing, if it's still tight I'd leave it alone.

My wife has a 70 dart with manual steering, 1/3 of a million miles on it, no issues. They're good gearboxes.

If so then you can get a rebuild kit from Rock Auto on line.

Unless you are talking about the box squirrel is talking about then you would no doubt be correct. They are a good looking box aside from the fact that they are an exceptional box for an old rod.

I believe it looks just like the one vtwhead posted. I'll look on rockauto myself.

Only thing on rockauto is power steering, and lares for an exchange service

  14. That's the one you want. You can tell everyone its a moon box and most of them won't know the difference. ;)

I sent my Saginaw box to Lares Corp. for a rebuild, no "exchange".
