Searched, but couldn't find a thread that was dedicated to just exhaust sound clips..

When you think about it,there are so many variables that can make two vehicles with the same engine sound completely different, pipe length, shape, diameter, muffler type and placement, headers, manifolds, just to name a few..

It's interesting to me to hear how much of an affect the said variables along with others can change the sound of an exhaust.

That said, can we start a new thread?

Post a short video of your rig idling ,revving and some exhaust specs..

Here's one to get the thread going. I'm pretty sure few of you here have seen this and of course chambered mufflers aren't traditional souding, however the Hushpowers don't sound too bad..

You can listen to sound clips all day and still not know how a particular combination will sound when you are actually standing by the vehicle or driving it, or hearing it go by.
No way in hell a computer can help you with that.

Here's some more with 180 Deg. headers.. Gives you more of an "exotic" sound..

I suggest you invest in some better speakers for your puter, because it certainly helps me.

Porters are tough to beat for that traditional sound.

  14. When I was an idiot in high school in the '50's I has a reel to reel tape recorder. I would record my flathead at slow speed and replay it at fast speed in my garage. The playback sounded about like a stock SBC being revved. I don't think anyone was impressed.

  15. LOL I can hang about any old mufflers on one of my motors or run the headers open doesn't seem to matter anyone who knows can hear and tell its one of mine from a mile off.

I would like to ad here that I have listened and the main reason is that I like the sound of 180 degree headers. I could listen to a sewing machine and grin if it had 180s on it.

I really appreciate the tunes fellas. ;)

Smithy's. My ol' man loved the sound of smithy's (pronounced smitties) and if I had to choose a muffler that sounds traditional to me that is what it would be.

Probably not exactly what you're looking for, but here's the sound from inside the cab on my A pickup, 283 w/ open Lakes style headers, no baffles, no mufflers. My wife was with me here (holding the camera) so this was just a nice lazy stroll down a canyon road. But the sound is music to my ears.

You definitely gotta have an ear to make the distinction for this stuff.

While I'm not sure, I THINK this Camaro has 180 headers on it as well combined with a high revving DZ 302.

Sounds good, surprisingly quieter than I though it would be.

I won't lie, there is a lot of noise goin on. Freeway entrances are loud. No side windows, no roof insert, going down the highway at 70 - 80 mph the wind noise is about as loud as the exhaust note. After 45 minutes it will leave your ears ringing. Adding baffles is in the plans (as are widows and some kind of roof insert as well)

I had an ignition problem last year, fired up my F100 and the SBC sounded terrible!

Sounded like a couple of loaded up plugs, so I drove it up the street to 'clear it out'.
Turned it around at the end, came back and popped the hood.
Air cleaner was full of cat footprints, and 2 plug wires were pulled out.
Stupid cat was probably in there when I fired it, and got tangled in the cables...
My neighbor came over, and looked in at the engine. (he's a drag racer)
"Holy Christopher, Mike! I heard you drive by and thought you planted a SIX in there! Scared me for a minute..."
    I laughed, but not loud.
