Great article Jive Bomber! The pic of Sig with Mable Cody and her #11 Frontenac and the pic on the beach with the Curtiss Jenny go together- Sig drove Cody's Frontenac in a few races and used it for the stunt... thatshould be Sig behind the wheel of the Fronty and Mable hanging from the wing
I don't know what is more amazing; the vehicle, the wing walker or the guy filming from another speedster? Great stuff, did the car survive?
Great post. I dig the loevered belly pan. Thanks for info Mac-about Mable Cody. Seems she was more than just a snappy dresser.
Sig Haugdahl also promoted a dirt track race in 1937 in Daytona with Bill France that lost money.Haugdahl got out of event promoting,France went on to form NASCAR.Not much is known about Mabel Cody post 1930's.
Great photos of race cars and race drivers. Instead of helmet and fire-proof overall they wore flat cap and tie, very stylish Wow, real cars and real men. I hope not just the cars but also the men survived their stunts. Kids, don't try that at home.
We tried to talk the pilot of the biplane at Trog last year into doing that, but he wouldn't go for it. Gotta find a more daring pilot thats not afraid to lose his FAA license. haha
FAA regulations were written in blood , a pilot told me that when he was going to flying school ,some one transferring from a car to climb a plane probably not allowed anymore I did see wing walking a while back but they had to have a safety cable attached at all times, you ever see the video of a Biplane doing a loop right at the peak of his loop the pilot falls out, this past Oct.My son and I went to a Airshow an there was this stunt of a person winning a free ride on a airplane he gets in the plane and takes off with out the pilot and lands on a truck moving the same speed , it took 3 attempts to land on the truck ,the plane was "CUB"
That's easy Bobby, I will fly the biplane if someone is prepared to do the transfer...I don't care about my FAA license...I haven't got one....haha back
