I just bought this. The previous owner thinks it's from 1959 but knew nothing else about it. I'm guessing it's a Lyndwood? Should it be marked somewhere?
You need to get some of that goofy shit off of it is a distraction, and get some closer pictures of the cage area, front axle and spring area, firewall and rear mounting areas. Then speak to some people that have a Lyndwood chassis. I too think it's a little long for a 59 version. The upward facing lower tube is also an interesting aspect. Rich Venza might chime in here he's old and probably not up yet. I will be following this. Pat
I bought it yesterday and I'm picking it up today. I'll get some more detailed pictures and measurements.
Wheelbase for that age car would have probably been less than 120 inches. If the bottom tube at the very back and bottom around the seat area of the chassis is 1" diameter, it was built prior to '64. That tube size was outlawed in '64.
Neat find glad you got it home safe. I can't help with identification, Lynwood or ? It looks 1963 or newer I think someone will recognize the coil spring front suspension and nail it down. Chassis were developing quickly around this time, lots of ideas being tried out. What is the wheel base and tubing diameter?
I don't know a lot about the older dragster, but it looks like it steers from the right hand side of the frame. Most dragster I have seen all steered from the left side. wonder whats up with that?????
The commonly used Ross box steered from the left but prior to the P & S Machine box becoming available as a dedicated center steer item builders quite often used whatever was available. There are plenty of early cars with right side steering linkages. Roo
