Will the roadster subrails sold by brookville work? and if so what changes need to happen.. I know Mcphersons sells them but you have to finish them. Also do any of you know of other suppliers. Any advice or help would be great.. Im going to start on repairing my five window and im going to unchanee=l it the rechannel the new subs after I get the body straited around...THANKS JOHN
You will need to cut only the top portion of the roadster subrails, just the part that will interfere with the door closing. That can either be replaced with part of an aftermarket rocker,( I bought mine from Mac's) or you could make your own. I'd recommend leaving the portion of the rocker cover the roadster subrails come with and modify only the part under the door.
I used brookville sub rails on my 5w. If I recall, the top portion of the rail needed a simple pie cut to clear the door and I then just fitted replacement 5w rockers over the roadster ones. Worked a treat.
Thanx for the replies any one have pics of the pie slicing.. Keep your advice and coments coming.....JOHN
Someone from McPherson Kansas has a set on EBay for a 32 Ford 5 window. We have used his stuff and it works. Listed somewhere under 32 Ford parts.
Here's how I did it. First is a picture of the subrails before I cut them. The door jam area is basically between the 2 crossbraces. The second pic is after I moved them for door clearance. The part that looks kinda like bondo was where I cut it. I left a little step at the inside edge because I didn't want to cut the Brookville bracing but a sill plate will cover it. I left the rockers intact. All you are really doing is moving the inner lip that the door goes up against inwards. I took a pattern off a 2 door body and checked the door thickness to be the same as the 5 window.
Like I said I know about his. He said it will be end of april before he has any more made up! hes just trying to drum up bussiness with the ebay thing.. Thank tho JOHN
