sorry for the wait back to work on the 48 ok so i goofed turns out the grills are not desoto ooops 1940 pontiac grills so after buying an original set that wasn't thrashed went back to work rear roll pan and license box nd back to the grills roughed in new grills in time to get serious about fitting time to french the headlights thats it for today randy
Love the chop. Nice work! I thought those were '40 Pontiac grilles when you first introduced them, but hadn't seen a '40 Desoto in a very long time, so....who knew? Maybe it's just the camera angle....or my old eyes, but the space between the upper, outer, grill corners and the headlights looks different one side to the other.......?? Is the driver side headlight closer? May have occurred during fairing in the buckets? Overall, great workmanship and will make a very cool Custom. Thanks for sharing all the details! Ray
thanks everyone and good eyes there is a bit of a difference between the 2 sides the drivers headlight bucket is pushed in closer just a tad it is where it fit the best when i do the p*** side i will pull it all together make it symmetrical the camera angle is messing with the look just a bit also
Coming together nicely. Looks like a good solid 'barn find' body to begin with. Makes it so much easier with less work fixing everything else up as well.
ok some more updates for ya'll getting the grill openings finished also the frenched headlights p*** side the front is starting to look good talked to the customer about rounding the hood corners he said "go for it " old square corner gone! new piece tacked in template filler pieces tacked in welded and ground down inside welded and ground thats all for this week i will have updates on the regular thanks randy

I'm really glad to see a completely new approach to the from of one of these. I'm not sure I'd have never thought of the Pontiac grille.
ok back for an update jeremy getting the inner fender panels cut and installed firewall welded up front marker lights frenched tailights frenched thanks for the look randy
Sorry, I just got here or I would have commented sooner. I had a '40 DeSoto 4-door sedan as my daily driver in the 1970's. It was a great cruiser! I'm surprised how similar the '40 DeSoto and Pontiac grilles are. I believe the horizontal bars are thicker in the Pontiac, but the grilles are the same shape. Anyway, it's a great look for the Plymouth. It took some imagination to visualize those grilles in there, and a lot of work to make it happen. The rolled pan is a nice touch as well. The front end looks 100% better than stock. Good work!
