Well little update, haven't been able to really do much on it lately due to work and weather, just when im off its 30 deg outside, and when im working its 70. But did talk to the DMV. They told me to bring it and everything i have, they will look into it and issue me a new ***le. So looks like that won't be that big of an issue.
you better be careful they get a look at that funny looking vin tag on the cab with the red paint they gonna turn your stuff every way but loose
Well the guy who handles this thing is my buddies father and i talked to him about it and he said they would take care of it once they see the frame vin thats what they will go from. He said but only because it was so old.
Ok you know somebody but you have your old motor number on the ***le you have, different frame number, funny looking tag on cab with a different number, probably a vin or part of a vin on the SBC engine in the truck now and probably a vin or part of a vin on the transmission in the truck now. Even if you wait until you get the truck more finished as you said the 454 may have a number, doubt if the pg would. Thats six numbers that could goof you up. Somehow you got the idea from your buddys dad they will ignore all the other numbers and work with the frame number, my experience tells me they cant and wont, so watch out for big trouble. You do need that tag they can do for you right on the door post where the law can find it right away if you get pulled over, otherwise they tow with no more checking or talking about it. I hope you can get it together without any of the other numbers messing things up
The front clip, at least, is a '55 due to the fender emblem being below the belt line. '56 was above the belt line. That's supposed to be the only difference between the 2. Also, the hood emblem is for a 6 cylinder. Also, it looks like the voltage regulator has been removed/relocated from driver's side near horn relay and hood hinge. I removed mine when I went to a 1 wire alternator. The only other function on the regulator was a wire for the AMP gage. That's a great truck with lots of after market sheetmetal available. Good Luck.
Still don't see how one could put a '55 clip on a '59 cab without moving the hood hinge locations...unless I'm missing something.
Sorry haven't updated in a while. Put a battery in it and it turned over but did not start. So went with obvious of fuel issues sinces its been sitting. Poured a little gas in the carb and it fired and then sputtered out. So to the fuel system i went. climbed under the cab and pulled the line off what i thought was the bottom of the tank, and nothing. So i looked at tank in cab, saw tube was coming from top of tank through sending unit. Pulled sending unit out and it was clogged up with rust, the float was filled with rust as it was cracked and the pre filter was full of rust particles. Took brake cleaner and just kept spraying it into the tub and using trimmer line to shove in the tube until i got it all clear. Couple of times with dumping some gas in the carb and it picked the fuel up and ran! No knocking nothing. So progress a plus. The carb is messed up as it ran better when i pulled the tube off the PVC valve. So need to get it off and cleaned up. Next is brakes, i tried to pull the cap off the resivoir but it is rusted shut. Might just end up removing it all completey and buying a new dual chamber MC instead of the factory single.
Ok if I had two ducks that were both Mallards, and they looked like Mallards and all I needed were two ducks that were mallards I would probably go on with life and not really go to ancestry dot com to see if there was any other kind of duck in their family tree. You got a Chevy truck and it certainly looks like a Chevy truck, your father-in-law says it is a '55 and it certainly looks like a '55. He supplied a ***le for a '55 Chevy truck and it has numbers that you have found on the body plate on the door jam, the ***le says '55 and the numbers match. What was the issue here? You not sure if your mallards are mallards?
