    Hi all

i searched but havent found an answer ;)

my 40 Ford Coupe has LED Tail lights and at the moment its not possible that if you brake, the turn signal works.......brake light alone = ok and turn signal alone = ok

both together, no turn signal....only brake light

is there a LED Tail light which can be used to replace the original one and everything works? there are some block diode`s installed to prevent that power goes back to the front turn signals.....and they are ok...

they said it cost hell of money to fix this......... and here in switzerland they cost a lot...... they said 1800$ ...crazy guys...

i saw there are several LED compartments out...maybe there is a better one than mine...which fix my issue

    please help

    Greetings

Are you running a turn signal switch with provision for brake light byp*** circuit? I know absolutely nothing about LEDs, but if they work on the same principle as an 1157 automotive bulb, the byp*** circuit could be at fault.

its a GM column....no idea...i bought the cars as it is....and under the dash are all new cables.....

  4. I'd suggest pulling the LED's out and replacing them with 1157's. That might help you isolate the problem.

Ok first, you need to find out if the LEDs work on the same principle as regular automotive bulbs. ***uming they do, then you need to find the turn signal harness coming from your GM column. It should consist of 7 wires that are color coded. Next, find the hot feed to the TS harness. Next, go to the search function here on the H.A.M.B. to make things easier on you. Somewhere, the color code for GM TS wiring is listed as to what color wire goes to each component of the system. From here, with a mulitmeter, check each wire to see if it is connected to the correct component. In mho, you will find the brake light byp*** wire is connected incorrectly, if at all.

Another approach would be to disable all the internal control systems in the column - reduce it to a simple collection of manual on-off switches - and then to use a separate, inexpensive, generic flasher unit, and all the relays, etc. you might need. I.e. make it work like European cars did until recently.

I have LED's in my 46 with GM colum and there no different from any other light other than design-They work exactly as the 1157 do. About 90 % of the time the problem is in the splitter in the directional switch. The switch can be unplugged and a new one or salvage yard unit can be plugged into that harness to test it without removing the steering wheel and harness. Your symptoms are cl***ic and this is a fast way to trouble shoot

ok....what i heard now from the garage is, when they use normal bulbs instand of the LED unit....it works....!?

is it possible to get 2 and 3 wired LED kits for a 40 Ford? guess i have only a 2 wired one...means negative, light/brake and turn signal....

If your system works correctly with 1157 bulbs & does not with the LEDs, then all you need is a new flasher for the LED. You must use the electronic flasher with LEDs because they do not draw enough amps to activate the original flasher.

i tried LED lights on my 29 build , beat the **** out of me for about 2 hours . the LED bulbs do not create enough heat to trip the flasher . put 1157 bulbs in and it works fine . you can purchase a flasher for these bulbs (usually dont last) , i also tried them in my brothers 69 dart and the flashed slow , but were no brighter than the 1157 bulb , in fact not as bright .

Do you have a regular flasher in the fuse block,,some LEDS will not work properly without a speciality type flasher.HRP

    news:

    - turn signal alone works
    - brake light alone works
    - position light alone works

when brake is used.....turn signal doesnt work, seems as it tries to flash very very minimal

    - electronic flasher is installed and tested with another one > doenst help
    - there are in total 6 block diode`s installed ??

today my garage will use the old original tail lights to go to the government to get the license plate....hope it works then....

afterwards i have to fix it.....defenetly......cause i want to have a secure light

thanks so far, i will give news as soon i have found out what helped

See my previous post - I had exactly the same problem and used the Jamstrait load equalizers - fitted and problem solved in five minutes. I got mine here:

    http://www.accessorysourcedirect.com/

Just click on Load Equalizers and buy online - it's that easy and cheap to solve your problem, and they'll soon be on their way to you.

right now i got the call from my garage, the original tail light are connected and everything works normal

i guess i will try to get such equalizers...maybe here ;-)

    thanks a lot

have you used the 12 Ohm?

they must be inline led to ground? or power towards LED? brake or turn wire?

Finaly fixed it with an trailer 4:3 wire converter, and changed as well to an electronic flasher, works now like a charm
