I'm hoping to run 40 style Houdaille shocks on my 32's front end, and need to heat and bend the arms to line them up with the 32 style perch mounts. Can the arms be removed? Don't see how. Can the shock body be submerged or kept cool while heating the arms? Who's actually done this successfully? The shocks are in good working order and I don't want to cook them. Thanks!
Lots of very wet rags around the shock where the arm attaches, and a big torch tip. Will bend no problem.
Keep extra wet rags on hand. Swap them as they get warm. DO NOT quench the heated section, even a little, even by accident. Let it cool as slowly as possible.
Where are you bending it ? After it is bent , I would put the main body of the shock, (especially where the shaft and seal are) in water letting the heated and bent piece air cool
