    Guys...

I know in the past I have seen some posts here and there of guys building truck cabs out of four doors. I'm failing to find them when i do a search for it??!
I've heard its been done,...What kind of success rate are we talking here? Break out your pics of your projects or the projects of another you might have of fourdoors turned trucks!!!

Reason i ask,....I scored a great 28-30 or so fourdoor from the cowl (which is primo) all the way to just behind the doorposts. The rest of the car was very bad,...torred, etc. Owner told me it had sat in a barn with the rear being exposed to rain due to some leaky roof problems. I was able to score that part of the body, the doors, (rust free too I might add!!), front end, wishbones, hood, window frame, extra front spindles, etc. for a mere $225 bucks!! Yes, they are still out there and YES they ARE affordable! ;)

I'm looking to either build a roadster or a pickup cab (which I've been wanting for years)....we'll see! Thanks in advance guys!

The one thing I've noticed is that my doors from this four door have a slant to the tops of them. I was told by the former owner that this was a '29 town sedan model. Here's a link to what the car would have looked like. You can see the top of the front doors, how they slant.

    http://www.eastohiocoolcars.com/Ford/1929ModelA.htm

I would have to drastically change the doors to make them correct.....Example: cut the top quarter section off and either add pieces to get rid of the slant, or?? Also another possible problem is that the sedan and truck doors are a full 2 inches longer than these doors from a four door. If i used these I wouldn't have that much room in the cab, not something i'd want to give up. Either that or I can section the door vertically in the center and graft in another two inches, and then correct the slant on the tops of the doors also. Lots of work for a door!

yeah i've seen this pic before....nice.

  5. You're making a mountain out of a molehill. Simply make the cab like you want it. Then build the doors to fit the holes. I drove it for a year before I built the doors. Hinged them on the rear, just for ****s and grins. It's called 'reverse-engineering'..!

Two thoughts: one, for as little as you have in this, see if you can score the rear section of another 4-door to get you the back panel and both quarter windows. Fill in the wheelwells, add a bed, and you'ld have a nice extra-cab pickup, even w/ the shorter front doors.

Two, use what you've got to the back of the doors, and then build a two door woodie body. Once again, plenty of room to move the seat back once you're inside, and lots of access to the rear with a tailgate.

  11. Ken Fenical of Posies built a really nice one. To see a magazine article do a search under "ken fenical pickup"---I tried to post a picture, but the damn thing exceeds the size to post on this forum and I don't know how to make it smaller.

  13. Jason; two things,
    1) If you do this, remember, that people will always recognize that it's 'not quite normal' and always asking, what was/is it? I don't mind explaining what I did, but sometimes the QQs get kind of old.

    2) The more it looks like a 'real' truck, the less space you'll have, because the original trucks are cramp-boxes. Good luck, B.

  14. There ya go-----this is what Ken Fenical of Posies built from a 4 door. A good hearted soul from "clubhotrod" forums downsized the picture for me.----Brian

If I can make it look like "Jeff's" truck, than hell yeah,....I'll go with the truck idea. If not, then a roadster. I'm being harsh on myself because I will not let myself build something to kind of "just get by" if you know what I mean. I just has to "look right" and I think of the trucks that had used pieces and parts, I think Jeff's is the most accurate. the extended 34 cab is nice also.

The Woody idea is cool. fact is, i saw that done in old skool rodz. it was actually a "reader's ride" of a guy who wrote in. They really should have done a feature on it!!

  16. That body is a tudor with about 15" sectioned out of the rear part of it - one of the magazines had construction pix in the feature.

Stuff is still out there if you dig, yes -

Ist let me state for the record that B29 your truck is awesome. I would love to learn more about it. Drivetrain and such.
The black and red crew cab is sweet too. Lets not forget Kustombuilder's truck he is building with a nailhead based on Jeems drawing.

back of the cab looks a little funny with how big it is. the adition of the rear windows from a four door ive it a better look in my eyes.

my 30 the cab is streched 4" with an extra inch gained when i flush fit the rear of the doors.

a 4 door cut into a pickup cab looks good with the shorter doors and 1/4 windows

Actually the white one was made from a set of doors and cowl from a four door. The back is a roof from a 1967 ford pick up, and some hand bent sheet metal. I agree on the quarter windows as you can see in the other trucks pics.

  29. I have posted this a few times before, but here is my roadster pickup built by slicing and dicing a 2 door sedan. I made the interior length from the dash-rail to the rear of the cab 6" longer than Henry Fords pickup and roadster pickup, because there simply isn't enough room in the original style cab if your taller than 5"-4" or more than 120 pounds.
