Need a website to compare Chrysler cars from the 50's. Trying to figure out how hard it would be to shoehorn a 331 hemi from a 54 New Yorker into a 52 Plymouth Cambridge.
You'll have to cut the fenderwells, that's for sure! The radiator support can be flipped around and the radiator moved forward a couple inches, Common trick on Dodge/Plymouth for engine swapping. Wouldn't surprise me if the front motor mount hole spacing was close to the same between your six and the hemi I'm bettin' you're gonna have to cut up the firewall to make it fit "right" the hemi is pretty long. Look up Hot Heads Hemi on the 'net, great site for hemi info, like length, etc. whatcha gon' do with the flathead six?
you could try p15-d24.com. go to the forum this site is mostly for 46-48 but I go there alot those guys bleed mopar and like to help. Im sure someone there has already done it or seen it done
Try this forum. Lot's of early Hemi experts.http://www.thehemi.com/forums/index.php?sid=467b2b4eb8856be839723e7473548b2cCrazy
On the other hand the dodge Hemi shares the six cylinders motor mounts and will bolt right up to the plymouth trans
www.ForwardLook.net has a lot of guys swapping sixes for Hemi's, mostly applies to 55-61 Mopar cars (fin era Virgil Exner designs) but there's some good engine swapping tech in there and the guys are usually happy to help out. I think someone needs to start a forum/website for the late 48-54 Mopar cars. There are enough owners/builders looking to share info, I think it'd be popular.
Won't be hard at all, but the mounts are all wrong. If it came with an inline six, that engine is already longer than a Chrysler Hemi. The biggest difference between the "big" cars (Chrysler/DeSoto) and the "small" cars (Dodge/Plymouth) is the wheelbase, and that is only different from the firewall foreward. That Hemi will fit, but it won't fit the same as in the Chrysler. Hoses, exhaust, etc. will need to be modified. Also, I hope you got the Chrysler trans with it or intend to run a later 727 or something.
