Somehow, I became a Merc Lover. Found a $450 49 four door Merc at a farm auction and got it to run, had it painted and sold it. By this time I had purchased a 51 Mercury Coupe which had a 3.5 chop by Bo Huff. This is receiving body work and a 350 shortblock and a bunch of other "UnMerc stuff". In that duration I came upon another 51 Merc (it finally came lookin for me) so I bought it from the "Ol Timer. I attempted to sell it at DM, IA swap meet, but no takers. I musta been crazed so I changed my mind and eventually hauled it to Kenny Baker in Elmer, Mo and requested a 6" chop. That being done, he also switched undercarriage to a 91 Grand Marquis. He is still finishing up on rough body work. I'm still dreaming and hope to be cruizing in the future. At the present I am cruizing around in a 48 Pontiac SilverStreak with a 12 volt conversion. Any other Merc O Maniacs out there? And That Tharz Ma Intro!

Yep! I got a 50 and a51. Both original. The 50 is stock running condition. The 51 is all there but engine is bad, windows have been busted out by some kids a couple years ago, but in good solid shape. I hope to get it on another ch***is and chopped but it is just waiting on me to get started. This HAMB is beginning to build a fire under me.

Greetings Mack, Yeah, this is an interesting site. I was at the Daytona auto show in Nov of 2003 or was it 2004. I was just wondering if you and your Merc was around? I have a hobby of taking photos of any Mercs I found at shows. So I have a collection. Perhaps I took a picture of yours. Ya never know.

    Hello Rodland,
Wha..tha, another "Twin-Merc'r". Are we greedy or what? At one time I remember thinking.."I'll never get ahold of one" and looky there! Takes a while to get to the point of being able to cruize, but I did enjoy the '49 I had, so until...(soon I hope) the other project(s) gets done, I'm on hold. But, ya gotta get started!

Great story on getting hooked!I got bit:cool: by the bug(merc)in 1981.At the time i was twenty one years old and into mid 50`s ford p/u`s.One day my father calls me to let me know a `51 mercury coupe, just like the one he had in the fifties, was for sale here in downey, cal.,and if i wanted to see it.Upon seeing the car and seeing my dads face sitting in the car and hearing him describe his old car i was sold. The car smoked but it ran and was loaded(skirts, guards, acc.steering wheel,etc..)picked it up for $1500.00!!!Presently i have a `51 coupe(fifth one since `81)`i am finishing up replacing the floor, and should be chopping it on the week of the 19th in march, should take a week.i plan on posting pics of some of the process for anybody interested in checking it out.LONG LIVE THE MERC,

I too just picked up my first Merc. Just bought a '51 4 door and I love it. I've loved old Mercs as long as I can remember and I'm finally an owner. I found the old car in GA for $1,000 and eventhough I'm in WV it was well worth the drive. I've been a lurker on the H.A.M.B. for a while and this is my first post. Lots of good info here. Also, it's nice to see other ppl with the same addiction I have! I hope to be talking to all the other addicts as my build goes along. Keep'em low!

Welcome aboard to my biggest addiction. I'm Krazy about the Mercurys!! In
1981, I went to the first KKOA Spectacular and just fell in love with them.
I knew one of these days I would own one. It took me 20 plus years but
finally got the opportunity to buy one already chopped and ready to roll. I
have a chopped '50 4dr that sets on a 79 Cougar drive train and I'm
proud to say that I have over 100k miles on her.

Good luck with the chop. I know Kenny will do a great job wacking the top.
Post some build pictures when you get the chance.

    Happy Trails,

    Mick
