I like your plan - you can still get a great looking 50's style build without chopping the top. Original three windows cost a ton of money, so build it your way! Look forward to seeing the progress.
Exactly right Steve! You can buy a chopped three window in fibergl***! stock height 3 windows are kinda rare these days, nice car, glad it's not getting cut up. And they don't have to be chopped to be a hot rod, dumprat.
Oh ..ok...when someone says bonneville style I think 8" chop , that is a very nice specimen I like my cars chopped but I couldn't do it to that car ! I like to think of it as respecting what it is.... I have never had anything that nice or that valuable , this 10" bonneville chopped wannabe dry lakes race car thing is a fad now..... just as much as Boyd wheels, Easter egg colors and hidden hinges were then... and should be viewed as such ...
That is not at all what I said. The guys who keep flapping "save it, put fenders on it, make it original" make me wanna puke. Sorry It is his car, hot rod it however you like but stock still ****s.
I dont ever chime in on this stuff because its his car and he should build it however he wants. Thats what makes this a wonderful world. If we all built the same car it would be pretty boring. However i do have a problem with the word "Hacked up" when referring to a chopped car. Guys that build heavily chopped and radical coupes aren't hacking them up. They are building hot rods. It takes a lot of time, smarts, craftsmanship, ingenuity and skill to put it all together and make it work. Anyone can hide behind the story of "I'm going to preserve the car because its so nice" its not hard to put a v8 and drop axle in a 34 ford and pull the fenders off. Thats not a hot rod, thats a 34 with no fenders. And I wouldn't call the SoCal coupe or the Pierson bros coupe trendy and they're heavy chopped coupes Basically good on ya for finding a great car and good luck with your build but we're not hacks for chopping them. If it wasn't for the guys building chopped coupes you probably never would have even thought that 3w was cool in the first place cause stock 34s ****
My dads 3 window is chopped. Yes it's takes a lot of talent and skill to chop one. My post about hacking was replying to all the guys complaining about how I was going to ruin this body. So as far as this thread I made I wish I could delete it. All I've had are people going one way or the other about chopping or original. I'm not talented enough to chop one correctly so I'm not going to cut up my car. Thank you all for looking. Glad it upset so many people.
Dude, I'm jealous as all hell. It's your car you build it however it pleases you, I will still be jealous. I wish I could find a 33 or 34 that I could afford. Bill
The ONLY reason the so cal coupe and the Pierson bros. coupe look like that is because they were race cars ... Posing to be a race car IS trendy "It's not hard to put a v8 and a drop axle In a car "... Your right... It's not too difficult to chop a nice body either ... Not rocket science
I too am fond of unchopped 34s. Build it how you want to and the car will show you the way. You're off to a nice start.
Welcome to 34 owners club. From here on out you will get a lot of opinions on how to build it, and a lot of don't do this or that. It is your car and do what feels right to you. I know I have taken a lot of heat from friends for not completing my 34 yet. I think we have all know how expensive it is to play in the 32,33,and 34 clubs. We have all seen those poorly executed cars and think what a waste. Last thing I want to do is pay a lot of money for parts, spend a lot of time, and ultimately end up with one of those poorly executed cars. We all know how easy it is to really screw up one of these cars. Take your time, enjoy the process, and foremost enjoy the car when completed.
34 Flathead, It's your Hot Rod, build what you envision and make it as driveable as possible, go out burn up the street, lakes & salt and live your life to the fullest. 28 years back I got a really kool steel Murray Built 3w, spent a ton on it, but was very impatient and turned only the body loose, but got another the next year and 2 others in 96. The reason I let mine go was because talent to repair the lower doors was expensive and Bobby Walden wasn't in town yet. I was advised to be "$ wise & money ahead" and do a gl*** roadster, this by one of the best of the "Tin Men" and "world reknowned ch***is builders in So-Cal". I listened, didn't build what I should've that year but did eventually do the roadster after I did a 30 RPU-Closed Cab, then onto a 34 3w that I enjoyed for several years. 3 yrs. later I used money from the sale of that coupe to buy my house ( Great Decision) , the same yr. is when I got the other 2. One just a body, the other a whole 40's era Hot Rod. The body became a car which I still gather parts for. Follow your heart, mind and soul and build the car of your dreams.
