In a recent rod magazine there was an article about chopping the rear crossmember in a deuce frame to lower the rear. I can't remember where I saw it (ain't old age great!). Can anyone clue me in? Thanks.
That would be the May 2006 issue of Rod and Custom. Its right after the Ionia Hot Rod Shop article and right before the kick*** 34 3 window article.
The fingers shown in the article are either our own HotRodDrummer's or his dad, Denny's. The crossmember itself was from a 40 Ford, but in a 32 frame.
Wow, thanks for the quick reply. I haven't subscribed to R&C for awhile, I read my brother's issues, so now I know why I couldn't find it in my highly organized pile. Now......how do I sneak that issue out of his pile? Hotwood
The issue was also covered by a couple of great HAMB scribes, in recent issues of Shop Rag and Magneto.
I believe it was a '35 - '36 rear x-member, not a '40. I'm interested in seeing some more details, like the torque arm that's only visible in the last photo. Maybe they can post them here?
I did this with the original 32 member in my roadster, I cut the centre out and raised it 3" to get the **** end of the car down 3", I detemined this raise as it allowed some line ( fuel line etc) to still run between the member and body floor so I didnt have to change the floor structure.
