Just to introduce myself as an old avid street rodder from the 50's. I was introduced to street rodding in the mid 50's drag racing at a small dirt strip in Helena, Alabama. Since then I have built and "driven" many rods, most of which were T-Buckets, henceforth earning myself the moniker of the bucketmeister. Now at the ripe old age of 75, I have undertaken the task of getting together the memoirs and history of that small dirt strip which was run by the "Strokers" car club of Birmingham, Alabama, and was paved by them and finally disolved in late 58 and then reopened in 1960 and gained national acclaim hosting such well known enthusiasts as Honest Charley (Chattanooga, Tn), Tommy Charles (B'ham., Al.) & Don Garlits (Ocala, Fl.). I am pleased to be a member of H.A.M.B. and look forward to many lively conversations, which as a newbie, I am sure will follow.

    Hi WOT1,
I'd be very interested in seeing any and all photos and info you can put together on Helena Drag Strip. I pass the site of the old strip on County Road 58 every day going between home and work.. Although I did a lot of local drag racing, Helena was already gone by the time I started racing in 1975. There are a few small items in the Helena museum in old town on loan from Charles Griffin. A local guy has recently had some t shirts printed that are reproductions of his original Helena Drag Strip shirt and he is also in the process of having home movie footage put on disc. Will post pics of the shirts soon.

  9. ............................Just so you know, wot1 hasn't been back on here for almost 5 years so, the chances of him seeing this are slim. You might want to consider starting a thread on the main board with the history and pictures you may have.
