are front and rear brake drums on 55-7 Chevys the same?..do the front drums come off the hubs?...seems like I was told this once. thanks
...I know the hub would have the bearings, do the drum separate from the hubs? ...are 55-6-7 rear drums all the same?
Here's a good tip. Grind the rivets off of the front drums and remove them. Get a pair of hubs from a 62-67 fullsize Chevy and swap the old ball bearing style hubs up to the tapered roller bearing style! More reliable and easier to buy bearings and seals for! The drums slide right back on.
Fronts and rears are the same after you get past the riveted-to-the-hub thing on the front. Or you may be like me, and someone along the line chiseled them off before you got the car. And Ratmotor has a great suggestion; its a cheap easy swap and makes life a lot easier later when you need new wheel bearings.
I changed my hubs on a 55 years ago to hubs fom a 62 chevy.Very easy to do.As I remember Cl***ic Chevy mag ran a "How To". Tom (Tired Old Man)

FWIW, '65-ish Impala rear drums are good replacements for the '55-57 fronts. You don't have to rivet them back on either, but I recommend the swap to the later taped roller hubs.

Bob

If you want a set of those hubs I have a pair w/ bearings in them for $35.00 plus shipping you do just remove the rivits and slide droms on. Pat
Oh? So the hubs dont have to be from a truck? Id lke to convert to disks.. heard a couple low buck ways useing oem parts... i know i could go modern kits.. heard they space the wheels out further though... mark.
The hubs are 62 to 64 p***enger 65 and later don't work. And most of the disk brake kits do move the wheel out about an inch. I didn't particularly like that look but when I was selling 55-57 stuff most customers didn't seem to mind. Pat
