which is the best radiator to use in a 1934 ford the walker z series or the cobra

  2. Give them a call. I've had very good luck with them on the phone

  3. Save yourself a couple of hundred dollars and order one from U S Radiator...equally as good...

  4. Just put a Cobra in my 34 2 months ago, won't run over 180 even in the 100+ weather we've had here in southern OK.
Ya can't beat a Walker copper rad.

  5. I've used both in 32 Fords and no problem with ether one. HRP

Sorry if this question seems dumb, but fairly new to this topic.

For the radiators you are describing, the Walker website only has them with 1 hose outlet on top and bottom, yet the stock radiator for a 34 flathead has 2 hoses top and bottom. Do they offer the stock set up? Am I just not seeing it on the website?

    Thanks,

  7. A quick phone call will get ya the answer.

  8. They do offer flathead V8 style, BUT their top outlets do not exit angled from the bottom of the tank like stock, but rather straight, horizontally from the engine side of the tank. The Drake new one piece hose (etc.) will not work. According to Walker, they cannot make it like stock, as they use a different style header plate. But they do make it, I have one.

Walker doesn't have the stock fan clearance on the top tank, if you are running a flathead / stock fan. Griffin does.

HotrodA, would you be able to post a photo of your radiator so I can see what you are describing? How did you work around the problem? Thanks!

Call Lee at Brassworks. Have your dimensions of inlets and outlets, he will make it how ever you want it. Mine has a low-brow electric fan, but here's a peek. Inlets and outlets matched to my 8BA. Installed, in my avatar. And yeah, those are hand bucked rivets and a licensed embossed logo. It isn't everyone's bailiwick, but it sure as hell is mine.

Does anyone have any experience with US Radiator? A radiator shop down here recommended them and they do have the correct radiator for a 34 Ford, but I cannot get an answer from them if the header has the proper indentation for the fan.

Another question, the same radiator shop that recommended US Radiator, thought there was a way to adjust the fan lower so you didn't need the clearance in the header. I haven't heard of this and the mechanic had never done it but thought he heard about it. Has anyone seen or done this?

    Thank you,

Bandit Billy - I did talk with Lee and have heard nothing but amazing recommendation about his products. Your picture is amazing also. Unless there is a less expensive, quality option I will probably be going with Brassworks, because they are only a few more dollars than Walker or any other company. All of Lee's work looks amazing and the quality and longevity seems to be worth the price. Brassworks also seems to be the only options that is a direct bolt in without having to make any changes.

John, they aint cheap but I did a lot of research before I ordered it so I went in with both eyes open. Aluminum radiators have to be epoxied when they need repair, there are questions over which actually cools the best, I know which one looks the best, I think in the long run (and I plan to drive this car for many years) I will end up saving money even though I spent more up front. I spent a bit on the fan shroud but I needed one and didn't want plastic or an eye sore and I wanted to bury that fan so it didn't draw unwanted attention. I think Lee pulled that off. They are artisans in brass and copper (and German silver).

Can anyone tell me if I buy a Walker or Brassworks radiator for from 34 Ford with a 21 Stud flathead, can i reuse this radiator if i decide to put in a 24 stud flathead later on? I would assume it is just the hoses that are different but I am not sure. I would like to keep my 21 stud, but the further i am digging into it the worse it is looking. I think I will have to buy a whole new block, and at that point I would rather just convert to a 24 stud because the parts are easier to get.
    Thanks,

John, I got nothing for you on this. My knowledge of pre 49 flatheads rivals my knowledge of women. In other words, I stick it in and wait for either approval or disapproval...I really don't care which response I get.
