In my opinion the centerpiece are the "real" dirt track tires.
    But I'm biased.

    Hi Ben
    Verde
cleared you up on that awesome plating car. That So Cal company has had a number of cool vehicles.
Not sure if you checked this out or not but a HAMBer (Nostalgia59) is building a tribute inspired So Cal plating car...here is the link... check it out...59 has taken some time off on it, it seems...lifes like that. Hope he is okay and gets back on it soon.

Built in 1991 and still on the road. You may think it homogenized but it's a rat rod in progress.

This is exactly the look I am going for with my 34 pick up. Maybe not as quite wide rear tires but the over all execution stance and everything is what I want to do. I am just unsure on what color I want to go with.

Oh no please don't. I hope you mean a traditional hot rod in progress, and auto correct f-id up???

And why would that be homogenized?

Hi Ray. Thanks for your kind words. I don't know how to post pictures but if you have some, feel free to use them. Howard.

  14. That picture was taken early 90s Tires , wheels, and color not so Important easy changes I suggest driving it in primmer at first until you work out the fit and finish, that's what I been doing for 37 years.

Great thread thanks for all the pictures. I have two observations all track noses were not created equal and some traditional lighting choices are really ugly.

All things are subjective to being scrutinized by all of us and hey we all like different things. I am surprised about the hate for E & J's and Woodlites. There is a deuce at the GNRS with E & J's and buckets had to be handed out to some to catch the unstoppable hurling about to commence.
They look great to me on the right car. I think the E & J's look better unpainted but the hurl factor is there painted or not to those that hate em...
They built a lot of these cars for racing and some literally taped cardboard on them so yeah some had limited budgets and did it for speed not show and if it worked things could be honed and polished or not. It definitely wasn't a car show per say. Look at the stock cars/jalopy races the cars started off nice and the dents were just part of the battle.

    Tonight's injection of neat stuff

  17. Nice thing about opinions, most people have one. Same thing with cars, horses and sailboats. If it looks right then it is right. Never thought there was a formula for taste anyway. Really appreciate all the cool photos put up here, which reinforces my opinion that Yes there are formula Hot Rods out there, just as there are cars trailered to shows and others are driven. My Shoebox is nearing paint, it has a very traditional hot rod flathead, a T5 and maverick rearend, talk about formula. However I'm not chopping it and I'm not running wide whites with Sombrero caps or painting it flat black which means it will be what pleases me not someone else. Which is the idea behind hot rods: be cool, go faster, make more noise and get laid. That formula has not changed in my many decades of wrenching iron.
My 49 Panel gets driven year round for work and play and covers a lot of ground annually, definitely not to everyones taste but it makes me smile.

Hard to say if my coupe will be any different than most. Usually don't see too many unchopped banger powered highboys with no fenders. Also don't see too many Special Coupes.

To me , the EJ's look perfect on the Frank Mack roadster and cars in that vein. On a lot of others; not so much so... Just my 2 cents...

I'm with you, bowie. They look good in the right application, but to my eye, the right application isn't common.
