I am about ready to ****on up the top end of a 302 Ford with a aluminum intake and wondering if any sealant should be used on the gaskets or go on dry.
I put old fashioned Aviation type sealer around the water p***ages at the ends of the gasket. and of course the end seals...which I usually replace with a bead of RTV.
Are there any better type of gaskets to use with aluminum intakes then with the cast iron,I am about ready to go get them.
I will be a little more carefull on this installation then when I originally installed this intake, when I bought the intake I also got the installation kit which came with new bolts (one broke) and gaskets that were a little too large around the ports and slipped down and did not have enough gasket to seal the bottom of the ports and used oil and might be part of the cause for the excessive intake valve and guide wear.
pay close attention to proper torque specs and torque in the right sequence. use some 5/16 guide pins or bolts so you can drop the manifold straight n to the heads. good luck!
Torqued it close to the factory specs and sequence, shop manual said 23 to 25 and if I remember correctly Edelbrock said 20 so that is what I torqued it to and started at 10 then did it again at 20 and going to let it sit a couple days for the RTV to cure before firing up.
