Is anyone running a 4R70W transmission and what do or don't you like about it?

I want to run one behind my 427W. I'm in the process of trying to determine which transmission company to build it for me too.

    Thanks!

Thanks! I contacted Dan at Silverfox for a quote and was wondering if there were any other reputable builders I should contact.

I'm running EFI a 4R70W and 373 pos in my 54, wouldn't have it any other way.
I've had the ecu remaped for more horsepower harder shifts and to get away from
the late model stuff I didn't want to deal with. ECI Guy on the bronco web forum can
    make all that stuff simple.

K5mog, Can you manually shift your transmission as well as just putting it in drive and let it automatically shift? This car is going to be a street car traveling to shows 3 to 4 hours away so I want to be able to just put it in drive and go, but I would like to put a ratchet shifter in it and be able to manually shift it when I want to play around with it like doing a burn out. I keep getting conflicting information.

If you're talking a BMW Quick Silver ratchet shifter, I've got a new one I'll sell you, but the reason I'm selling it is they won't work on an AODE or the 4R70W I have in my '57. It will work on an AOD with a additional kit.
So, yes, I have a 4R70W******* hooked up to my 4.6 EFI Dohc. I'm running 350 gears. I'm still doing test runs in the car,******* is working good, shifts smoothly, you can put in in drive and go, or manually shift it. It is a computer controlled*******. I used the Mark VIII shifter from the donor car. Doesn't have the hot rod look, but neither does my car's interior. The advantage to using the factory shifter is it already has the OD on/off*****on, and the oem gear position indicator. The car does seem to shift automatically in and out of OD almost too easily on hills. I'm told that's normal, it's "just that you don't notice it in a car with quiet exhaust. I can barely feel it shifting, but I do hear it in the exhaust. Driving around town, or frequent hills, I just take it out of OD. I don't know how much the 350 gearing is coming into play on the frequent in/out of the OD.
I****ume your 427 is not computer controlled, so my question to those in the know would be can the 4R70W******* be made to function manually.
Kmog...I was hoping to run with a stock computer, as I believe it is supose to with the Ron Francis Televork kit, but my mechanic friend drove it today and told me I should have it reprogramed to eliminate issues like it running too rich, so, do you have a link to the guy on the Bronco forum, or a link to that forum. Does he get into the OBD I stuff?

I have not bought the******* yet. If I go with Dan he recommends Baumann electronics to control the 4r70w. I'm just trying to figure out if you can still put a shift kit in one and can you run a ratchet shifter like the Quicksilver. If not, I'll just put in a Lokar detent shifter or something like that.

That's the right link for EFI guy, talk to him, if you want answers that work. I never run mine thru the gears manually, but thinks it will work the way you want.

Any body have a phone number or an email for that efi guy? I looked for something on the linked site, but could only find info to send him a pm thru that forum. I was at a swap meet in Denver yesterday and got some info on a full time shop there that specializes in the Ford computer systems. That may work better for me since the EFI guy does this part time. I'm going to call them monday. It would be nice to drive my car to a shop to have it*****yzed, then leave my spare computer with them for the remapping. That way I wouldn't be******** for more than the day.

T-57, you'll have to join that forum to send a PM. From what I have read there, His name is Gerry and he seems to reply to his PM's pretty fast. He will send his phone number to anyone who needs help with Ford EFI.

    Here is EFI Guy's info

Garred is a great guy and usually has an answer to most any problem with efi. I went from no idea
how to install efi to a working running no hassle engine. I reworked my own harness, had Garred remapp my my ecu. A person can do the whole thing with his help for a little over $300.00
with junkyard parts as a diy project. Of course it goes without saying that doesn't include an engine with the correct intake and ignition. The engine without a distributor was a bit of a head scratcher
for me. I finally wound up making a homemade bracket for the crank sensor. I know you can use the earlier mustang efi but it's actually more complicated and a hell of a lot more expensive to do, but it uses a distributor. Once I got past the need to clean my injectors, they had been laying a box for over a year, my engine cranked and ran on the first try. All I had to do was let it run and restart it a couple of times and the ecu tuned my engine and I've had no need to touch it. I had a fuel pump go bad and had quite a go with that. I installed a new pump and didn't tighten the hose fittings I nearly tore the engine down hunting that mistake. I would be glad to post the complete setup I'm using if any one is interested.
