    Hey Guys,

Just wondering if anyone else out there as put an AOD in their F100. Did you run into any issues with the transmission hump for clearance? Were you able to use the column shift again? My project is nearing the stage of dropping in the new motor and transmission. Appreciate any pointers!!

    Thanks!!

TV cable adjustment HAS to be spot on or it'll die a quick death. Similar to those 700R4's.

No problems in my 53F100 with clearance. Not using original column so no help there. Use a pressure gauge to set tv cable if you use Lokar.

What trans are you replacing with the AOD? If I recall correctly, '64 came with a Cruis-O-Matic. They are very similar in size to an AOD, except the mount on the AOD is about 5 or 6 inches further reward then the Cruis-O. The AOD is also a bit longer, so you may have to shorten the driveshaft, but tunnel clearance shouldn't be a problem. The column shift should be easy to hook back up, you may have to make a new linkage, but a couple of heim joints and some rod and you are set.

As mentioned, make sure you get the TV cable set properly.

    Good Luck.

I also have a 64 F 100 and rebuilt a 302 - AOD for it, but waiting on higher temps to install. I went a different way in that my 64 is on an 87 F150 frame. I now have 302 mounts, power st., power disc brakes, lowered with new front end and dream beams, my own $10.00 drop for the rear on a shortened frame. I now have the rust cut out and replaced, all I need to do now is finish putting it back together and painting back the original two tone. Mine had a 3 sp., I 1st planned to put in a 67-72 truck column, but now using an after market tilt column. I also plan to rewire and add a/c.

You should have room but here is where you may have trouble. Depending on where and how high or low you mount the 302 you may have trouble with the 64 truck rear engine/transmission cross member. This member usually crosses between the engine and the trans pan.

When you install the engine and transmission, you are going to have to maneuver it over this cross member. Basically you have to shoe horn it in there. There is plenty of clearance once it's in but it takes some maneuvering. Some will remove the cab bolts and lift the cab slightly for it to clear easier. Another option is to separate the transmission and install the engine from the top and make the trans connection from under the tuck.

Personally I think it's worth the small amount of trouble to keep the original cross member although for your application it's not being used, other than a bridge for the fuel and brake lines. It does add structure to the frame.

Some will remove it but if you do, use aftermarket tube cross member mounts on the front and a after market or 65 up Ford transmission cross member for the trans mount. This will somewhat replace some of the structure lost.

Another thing when setting up the mounts, have the engine set slightly to the passenger side to clear the steering gear. If you notice, that's what the factory did, the center of the trans hump is off a little to the passenger side.

Really it's about as easy an an engine swap goes.

Column shift will be a problem. 61-64's are presently orphan years for the correct 3 speed manual column parts. Even if the old 3 speed column shift is in good condition, jerry rigging it to work an auto at best will be sloppy as far as feel or at worse a safety issue as ...who knows what gear it's in and if it's going to hold.

    Shifter options....
Gennie and Lokar mimic the look of the original style t-98 4 speed floor shift.
Personally I like the Hurst Pro-matic style cable shifters, they have a 60s vibe.

I put one behind stock mounts in a '66 and had to raise hump about 3"
