I'm tearing down a 283 to go to the machine shop to be tanked and checked for cracks. The fuel pump boss had a block off plate on it when I bought the engine. The fuel pump pushrod is stuck fast in there, and I cannot seem to remove it by hand. I am reluctant to strike it with anything or grab it with pliers as I do not want to gall it. If anyone has been in this predicament, tell me what you did to remove it. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
is there a bolt in the front lower part of the block that lines up with the push rod? if so it may be too long and holding the rod in place.
If it's not the bolt, get some PB Blaster and work on it a little. A new pushrod is cheap if you tweak it.
The cam end may be "mushroomed" from long term wear. If you can push it towards the cam side and check. If so remove the "cap" of the shroom.. ..dremel...file.. then pull it out of the block.
Gave it penetrant and a couple taps with a ball peen on the end, pulled it like a bad tooth with some pliers. Thanks guys. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
