Building a T-V8 in NW AR

Discussion in 'New to the H.A.M.B.? Introduce yourself here!' started by Late to the Party, Nov 29, 2015.

  1. I don't know whether anyone actually reads these introductory threads, but since I'm new here I thought I'd post one. I've been a Model T guy for the past 15 years and am active on the MTFCA Forum. Since that forum consists mainly of grumpy old farts, I though I'd fit right in here.

I started building a Hot Rod about 9 years ago and got the ch***is mostly built, then something else became more important so the ch***is has been sitting out back behind the shop eating gr*** for 8 years. (Sound familiar?) I recently brought the ch***is back inside and am jumping on it with both feet.

My first car was one which I built from parts 52 years ago when I was 18. It was a '30 Coupe with full fenders, a big V-8, etc. While I've had many interesting rides since then, I haven't had another Real Hot Rod. I intend to change that by building a late 40's/early 50's type of Rod. I built a frame using Model TT ton truck rails and Model A crossmembers so I could bolt in a Model A front end and rear end. It'll have a Flattie with some early speed parts backed by a '39 box with '48 gears. I'll use a '15 Roadster body with the turtle deck, and '35 wires with big & little Firestones. I have those parts mocked up now, to see where to go with the front suspension, steering, etc. I'll start a build thread soon. Here's a pic of the mock-up.

  3. Here's another mock-up, of the engine. Old Thickstun intake, Thickstun head covers, and a pair of 97's. One of these days I'll get to put it all together for real, instead of doing mock-ups. :)

Welcome to the Hamb. I like where you are going with your build. Even if the build has been slow, at least you still have the car. How many people wish that they could have a car back from their youth to build it now.
