He was helping a friend load a car on a trailer and fell off. He broke his shoulder....badly enough that it requires surgery. I believe the surgery is happening this morning.

Thanks for the update, Don. At our age, nothing broken heals quickly, but I guess on the bright side it could have been alot worse than a broken shoulder though..head, neck, hip, etc. Hope the surgery goes well.

Ooooo... loading a car on a trailer. In NY that means no-fault insurance coverage picks up the tab. Just something to be aware of.

Shoulders are tough. Jacked mine up in 2010 with a weight lifting injury. 4 months of PT 3X a week got me back.

I just dislocated mine back in October (then redislocated in Novermber) and it is still giving me some issues when weightlifting (crossfit/olympic/strongman), but recovery is still coming along nicely. Shoulders are complicated beasts.
    Wishing HRP a rapid recovery.

    Update from Danny's wife Brenda:

"Danny's shoulder is too badly broken to fix, has to be REPLACED. Have an appointment with Dr Murphy Friday at 1:30 to schedule surgery. Dr Pierce said because of injury to the tendons and muscles he will have some loss of motion and also diminished strength in the arm. (Still sort of processing information.) Dr said until surgery he just needs to stay as relaxed and still as possible. Will have more information Friday afternoon. Your concern is very much appreciated. Please keep us in your prayers."

Oh ****.......so much for the "coulda been worse". That's a real downer! Makes you wonder what they would have done 20 years ago.

Bummer, as we age we can't take the falls we could when 25. Sorry to hear the update Danny. Just hang in there.

Actually the replacement thing has been around for over 50 years. It's been refined over the years and involves a prosthetic socket and new end at the humerus (upper arm bone). Heavy duty surgery no matter what, but recovery is pretty good for almost everyone.

Godspeed Danny. I had my left shoulder complete replacement 7 years ago and while recovery was a bear at times, I would do it again in a heartbeat. In fact the right one probably will need it in a year (degenerative arthritis). The worst is the first day of rehab...I cried like a baby, but each day was better and better. 90 days to the day I was swinging a golf club. Don't ask me to open a pickle jar.
