Technical Any one have American Classic 710-15's?? Sizes?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Rocket's Hot Rod Garage, Feb 8, 2016.

  1. I'm doing some tire shopping for a mild custom in our shop. We're wanting a slight rubber rake & I'd like to run the Coker American Classic Bias Ply look radials. The issue I see is the 670-15's are listed at 28.24" tall and the 710-15's are listed at 28.21" tall? They're almost the same; but why? Why would they have almost the same tire with the 710-15's actually being shorter. I found another site where they actually list the 710" at 27.98" tall.....

Is there anybody out there who has some 710's mounted on a car that can give me a real deal height measurement? Or some 670's?

    Thanks

I don't have any 710's ,but my source says 28.21 inches tall.

I happen to have access to a 710R15 American Classic. Let me double check the overall diameter on one and I'll post.

    Thanks,

Ok, a quick check on the 710R15 verifies it is around the 28.25" You might look at using a 670R15 in the front and the 800R15 in the rear to give you the rake you want. That would give you just over a 1" difference in height.
    Thanks,

  8. The thing I'm hesitant about is the difference in WW size. The customer wanted to stay with a smaller WW & sense it's a big body 50's car we don't want to exaggerate it much. I know the 670R15's are listed at 28.24" but how true is that? I just don't understand why they'd make 2 tires that are almost identical.

The whitewall difference is only .5” between the 670R15 and a 800R15. Its your call on whether it will look ok or not.

The 670R15 is very close to the 28.25”, I just measured one today, so bank on it.

Both tires were developed for people whose cars use those sizes as a OE fitment. A person that has a car that used a 710-15 as a OE size, really isn’t going to want to use a 6.70-15. It’s the same reason we offer both the 670-15 and 710-15 in bias ply even though they are dimensionally close.

Hope this helps. Feel free to call me if you have other questions.
