  1. Guard the build sheet with your life as you look for codes.:)

Chrysler did some crazy stuff back in those days..........Hemis in wagons and four doors, etc. There was a cop near us and his patrol car was a 426 Max Wedge four door with a four speed. He rolled up on me one night when I was racing a GTO with my own GTO and I took off. I had the speedo buried past 120 and he was coming up on me like I was standing still. The only way I got away was to get onto some side roads where I was faster through the turns.

Those were interesting times for Mopar for sure.

I actually have both plates. It has the radio delete in now. But I have the Radio plate as well. Came with the car.

  7. Thanks, your comment is appreciated.
There are 2 1951's in the stable, not much variety in my life.
One is the black 2 door sedan, other is the dark blue sport coupe, more commonly known as a "business coupe".

I remember seeing a 1964 Dodge 880 in a wrecking yard(Tommy Shannon's) on the Mississippi /Alabama border. WE were freaking out that the 4 door had a 4 speed, a friend bought it to put in a 64 Dodge with a poly v 8. This was in the mid 70s. Old Tommy had a big shop where he built dirt track cars. By the way, if the peron who was looking for a 880 front grill hasnt found one yet, I know where one is. And Newport parts also.

I'll jump in on this one my father's first car was a 64 Newport conv white with red interior white top 361 bb and a 3 speed manual on the floor the only other option was the automatic push button on the dash unless you jumped to the 300 then you got a auto , floor shifted
    Is this Newport for sale?

  13. I still remember the catchy campaign ad run on TV in '64 for the price leader stick Newport.
They kept singing $2964 over and over.
A brainiac chick in my class had one her dad bought for her to drive to school every day.
Raised her status level as she whipped through those gears.
Had a nice sound to it.

Kinda... I tried to sell it. But no one thinks it has any value.. The thing is I can't find any others (Anywhere). So since she still only has 82,500 on the clock. Guess I'll just drive it. the 361 was replaced with a 383 2v .Eventually folks will come around. If you search google for a 1964 Chrysler newport with factory 3 speed. You will only find this car. And a station wagon.. But as far as coupes or sedans are concerned. This is the only one out there. I have aquired a 69 11 inch flywheel' Bellhousing and a (Flange) style A833 for it... Might bolt on a paxton type supercharger and have a real sleeper. Considering the car weighs in at under 4000 lbs. I'm sure it will boogie quite nicely. But ya I would sell it for the right price. :) The extra trans etc would be xtra.. Thanks...

P.S. Got a 48 super sedan too. :) You probly figured that out from my pic,,, It's all original too. But I have a 50 motor I gotta put in it.

  16. When I was in high school I know where there was a Windsor, a '59 3 speed car, 4 doors and under the hood was a 383, the speedo said Police Certified. I remember thinking it was odd because up to that point I have never seen a cop car with a 3 speed on the floor. LOL

I like the original car in this thread because tome it is an oddball and I like oddball stuff. I never trust original mileage on an old car, as there is no real way to verify it, but it really doesn't matter an old car in good shape always makes a good driver low miles or not.

That oem shifter alone is worth more than a couple bucks I bet. Not to mention the original shift boot. May have sourced it from their truck parts division.

  18. Actually looks like the shifter out of a valiant or dart. of course that does not mean that it was not originally a truck part.

  19. Looks like the original shifter to me. Those were fairly flimsy looking.

  20. A Valient or Dart shifter would be an original shifter. I think Mother MOPAR used the same 3 speed shifter in about everything in that time period. They were still using the same shifter (or one that looked like it) in the valiant barracudas, they would take a real beating believe it or not.
