Could somebody advise if this rim is available in a 15x7 with a 5" or 5-1/4" backspace? Thanks in advance. Allan.
No I didn't. It's Sunday.... and President's Day tomorrow (I think). I was just asking if anyone knew if that backspace was available. Thanks for the response though.
Summit sells them, have a look on their site. Those look like their series 12 wheels. Just looked, seems all they got is a 4" back space.
I'm having trouble finding a 15x7 with that much backspace too. Let me know if you find a vendor. A 15x6 usually has less frontspace if that is what you need.
The back spacing is limited to area where the center is welded to the rim. Call them on Tuesday and see. Also you can look at their video catalog online.
They made some 18x7 with 5-1/4" back space for me. They were the forged aluminum. Also try Bob Sage at Wheelsmith. Good luck.
Have delt with them in the past and they have done some special backing for us. Give them a call. I would try them tomorrow, they aren't a government agency. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Been thinking on this subject for a while. While more backspace would solve the problem for this wheel, if you ever wanted to do a different wheel, extra backspace might not be available. At what point do you decide to do a narrowed rear instead?
I just got off the phone with Wheel Vintiques and ordered a pair of rims with a 5-1/4" backspacing. There's a $20 surcharge per rim to make the special backspacing. Pretty reasonable. Just have to wait the 4-6 weeks for them to get made. Thanks for all the advice. Allan
I'm trying to buy a couple of rims to match what had already been purchased (also Wheel Vintiques rims) by the original builder of the frame but won't work due to running fenders. Out of curiosity..... quality issues, customer service issues.... or what? That`s a pretty vague comment to just leave hanging out there. Do you have any personal experience with their products?
AL T, the negative issues about Wheel Vintiques I've read were quality issues like out of round and not coming close to meeting lead times. I also remember some HAMB members recommending buying Vintique products through Summit Racing rather then Vintique due better customer service and response if defects were encountered. I have not any direct experience with Wheel Vintique products myself as I don't buy anything from suppliers with negative comments. Obviously you haven't searched Wheel Vintiques utilizing the HAMB Search Function or you would have seen complaints about them. You also probably haven't Googled Wheel Vintiques either to check for others with complaints. Searching a vendors negative history before making a purchase is always a good practice. Too bad you didn't have this information before you made your purchase. Once a vendor has your money they've got you by the balls. Gary
There was a company a few years back called, "Steve ________ Motorsports, they produce a Corvette Rally rim with any backspace that you desired. No chrome, all chrome, or just chrome rim. I obtain a set and they seem to work fine, no issues.
That's good information. Thanks. I appreciate it. I'm matching the rims that were already on the frame I bought, that's why I went with Wheel Vintiques. The original rims were bought through Speedway but unfortunately they only sell standard backspacings. I'll be sure to provide some feedback as to the quality of the rims once I receive them........... or does Wheel Smith sell the same rims? Just really trying to get rims under the car that won't destroy the fenders. Thanks again. Allan
Al, besides searching a vendors negative history, you could always enter a post asking if any HAMB members have had problems with a specific vendor. For your sake, I hope Wheel Vintiques has gotten their act together and will treat you well. Gary
Add me to the list of dumb ***es regarding Wheel Vintiques. I checked only as far as to determine that they were an Alliance Vendors. I ordered through Summit as it was cheaper and I thought their customer service reputation would help. When I ordered I was told the wait time was 4-6 weeks. At about 7 weeks I got an email from Summit that I would be advised soon on what the new ship date might be. I called Summit and talked to a supervisor and told him he needed to contact Wheels Vintique (I never could get anyone to answer the phone) to get a confirmed ship date or to go ahead and cancel the order. Oddly enough I got a call the next day from Summit that the wheels would ship in 2-3 days. My guess is that they pulled 4 wheels from the seconds pile and shipped them--only a guess! Well, they did come and they looked nice. Off to the Goodyear store to have them checked out. Well, it seems that there was only one that might be used--if I put it on the back and never exceeded 50 mph. Two others were "bad" and the 4th one actually made their machine hop. I paid the man for his advanced warning, loaded them up, and headed home. I called the supervisor at Summit and told him I needed a UPS call ticket, an immediate credit to my credit card, and an extra $20 that the Goodyear guy charged. The supervisor said that he would take care of it. We'll see........ Feel free to confirm that I am a dumb***!
Wheel Vintiques has advertised like crazy for years, so they must be making and selling wheels, eh? So why not a bigger outcry for slow delivery and defects? Before I cross them off my list... who knows more? Gary
5 years ago I bought 4, 2 were 16x8 4" backspace, 2 were 15x7 custom 3 3/4" backspace so they would not be reversed. The runout on all 4 were perfect, maybe the quality has changed? ( added; mine were 14 series )
The ones they made for me ran on the back of my LSR fuel roadster and got me into the 200 mph club at 210.9 and were perfect. However they were NOT steel. They were forged aluminum inners and outers welded together. They had no runout in any direction. I told what my plans were so that may have been the difference. At the time Bob Sage at WheelSmith was not making any 18" so I could not use him. Other wheels he has done for me were Excellant and I recommend him.
I have had 2 sets of wheels from Wheel Vintiques and they ran smooth and balanced with minimal weights. I will soon be ordering a set of 14 series in 16" for a set of Excelsiors I am going to get.
I had a miserable time with Wheel Vintiques when I tried to order 15x12 wheels with minimum back spacing. After some run around from the counter man, I got a supervisor that told me that theses would be special order, paid in advance and non return, non refundable purchases. And worst of all, they would not build the wheels until my check cleared! No credit card, no debit card, only a check that had to clear before they would begin work on no guarantee products. I told them what to do with their wheels. Not knowing where to go I called SoCal and they confirmed my Wheel Vintiques problem. They recommended Wheelsmith and so I called them. They built the wheels just the way I wanted, took my card info over the phone, and the wheels arrived in a little over a week. I thanked the guy on the phone and told him of the problems with Wheel Vintiques and the SoCal recommendation. He replied that he loved Wheel Vintiques because of all the **** they gave people just helped his own business do better. I might add that this all happened before Coker bought Wheel Vintiques, so I can't say how things are since. But, I have gone to Wheelsmith a few times and referred friends there and have Ben happy with every purchase.
