Is there anything out there that is compatible with a stock 1934 steering column/box - possibly a 1953/56 F100 or something similar in size? Later steering would obviously be better and also easier to obtain parts for a rebuild, so has anyone found a replacement that would work in an otherwise stock type setting? Thanks
This is my 40 - 47 Ford Pick Up column & 40 standard wheel using the stock 32 column drop / switch with a vega box in my 32 , should also work for a 34.....
I have seen the F1 and F100 box used here are some links. http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6013 check out post #11 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/f1-steering-box-in-a-33-34-ford-frame.764115/ http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/ch***is-suspension/1107sr-f1-steering-boxes-for-pre-35-fords/ http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/engine/1206sr-improving-the-steering-in-32-34-fords/
The same f100 that Randy gross modifies for the Model A guys should go in fairly easy. I am surprised they haven't expanded into the later market (maybe they are too busy with the Model A"s. Here is one of his Model A adds: http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=101155&highlight=gross Charlie Stepehns
To those that have used the Vega steering box, did you convert to a cross steer drag link or somehow modify something to work with an original style drag link? What were the issues with mounting the box - good & bad - and what did you do for the steering column connection. Thanks
Jeep. As in Willys Overland jeep. They are repoped or you can still find them, simple columns and they work real well. They didn't change them from the war until the redesign in the mid '60s Here's a ****py pic of a '62 they plug right into the steering box like an old Ford.
