just because you ship your ride with a professional service does not guarantee that it will get to you safely.

Glad I got down through there before that mess happened. 8 Mile backup! I bet US31 was just as bad.
Stuff happens, when you ship something anything can happen in transit. Looks like it might have started from a trailer tire or hot brake. Have had both happen, if you notice it quick enough you can get it put out before it spreads. Hope they had good cargo insurance, they're gonna need it.

Some expensive Porsche 911's lost. Hard to make out the red one. That is a call a owner does not want to receive.

That's truly sad. Some folks' dreams up in smoke. Hope all were insured.

As a practical matter how does this work from an insurance angle? Does County Farm insurance say "Nope, we ain't payin'" or is it covered under my homeowners, or does the carrier only have liability to save money and keep costs down?

"Sorry Mr. Smith, through a truly extraordinary, unlikely series of events, unfortunately your vehicle was not covered for anything. In fact, there are several hazardous waste fines and fees that were incurred due to HazMat clean-up and the Response Team that was deployed." Hm.

On your original post, look to the upper right. There's a THREAD TOOLS box with a small triangle pointing down. Click on that and you'll see some options; one being EDIT ***LE

Click that and a small window pops up for editing.

in this case the transport company pays for the whole loss , this is why we have to carry major liability insurance for instances like this ( 1 mill min) . now the car owners when they put the vehicle on the trailer they should have specified the replacement value on the bill of lading . and P***port transport has been in business for years so they will compensate the people properly . this is one reason why when I ship a car I check the companys backgrounds , I have run into several that do not have the proper insurance or the proper operation paperwork .

  12. Its also a good idea to have a battery shut-off when you transport your car.
Porsche (silver) Corvette (red), no pics of the other two.

This is the first pictures I have seen of one of the professional cl***ic car haulers on fire or wrecked. Yes, I know it happens but it is truly rare. Bob P*** sold P***port to FedEx but heard it has been sold by them.

Further, your insurance company will subrogate the carriers insurance carrier. They will fight the carriers insurance company for you. If your car has proper insurance such as agreed value, not stated value, then you are likely to be made whole on the loss. Whole as in money-wise, still a loss of the car. If you are underinsured such as in stated value, you could be in for a reduced settlement.

I like the rich part of town, they are less likely to steal my car and more likely to give me a job.

The rich part of town did give my job...however they would probably have my jalopy towed because it was an eye sore...

I live in a rich neighborhood (in a tiny rent-controlled studio with my wife). Many of our new neighbors have asked me to park my '60 Falcon in my "own neighborhood".

looks like a cammed over brake or a bad air valve slammed all the brakes shut, either way the driver should have felt it and got it pulled over sooner

seemed he had time to get his tractor out from under it

the carriers have huge insurance coverage for this. I have a friend who hauls jet engines and the company he contracts for carries the insurance. He regularly hauls new engines that cost 30 mil each, and he takes 2 at a time.

Rich or poor side of town, this is not a good deal. Peoples dreams were destroyed here. It looks like a wheel bearing failed causing the grease to ignite

  26. I am sure P***port has high cargo insurance, but I tell all my customers that inquire about insurance that they should get however much coverage they feel comfortable with themselves. Be it Haggerty, Grundy, Am. Cl***ic for agreed value or just normal Nationwide type for lower value cars. it is always easier to deal with your own company than some one elses

Bill {Bill's Auto Works} has hauled several cars and frames and ***orted things. I and the people who he hauled for are very pleased with his work.

Hi HAMB folks, I am sad to report that one of my vehicles was on this transporter. It was a '65 Chevy C10, full rotisserie restoration on its way from North Carolina to my home in Reno. To say that i am sick over this would be a gross understatement. Here is a photo of the truck loading onto the transporter a little over a week ago. Awaiting news from P***port Transportation on the extent of the damage or if it's a total loss. Presently accepting all love and sympathy from any car lovers, also trying to find a silver lining in any of this.

^ Sorry to hear that, hope everything works out ok. Hard to tell from the pics but the two cars shown did not look totaled.
