Help, we are restoring a 1964 gto. Have the original hoodscoops and the console, but they need to be repainted and polished or chromed where the silver part is. Can anyone tell us where we might get this done. We are in the northwest.

Pics? If I remember '64s correctly, the tops of the fins on both the scoops and console top plate are chromed and I thought the recessed areas were painted black. A good chrome shop will be able to replate them but the recessed areas will probably still have their pits in them, you'd have to very carefully mask off the tops of the fins, fill-prime the grooves, then sand them smooth before repainting to eliminate the pits on the painted areas.

I worked at a chrome shop for a while (Custom Plating Spe******ts in Brillion, WI, they could do it but not exactly local) and the amount of work it would take to file the pits inside the grooves smooth, just to paint over them, would be astronomical.

You are correct about what they are. Our best local chrome doesn't do "pot metal" because he won't guarantee results. Actually, these aren't badly pitted.

  7. And who is your 'local' chrome shop? I'm just north of you, will be needing some chrome work done...
