Ive got a 30 model coupe. I bought a 32 frame pinch for Model A from Brookville roadster. I bought 27 inches hairpins from Speedway that are 3 inches too short. What should I have bought?
Beer most likely.......that always helps. All of us can attest to that. What axle are you using and explain how the hairpins are too short.....a pic would be good so we can unravel the issue.
Are you just measuring just the hairpin itself, or do you have the clevises and tie rods (or rod ends) on? This will add to the length. Adjust where you put the rear bracket- they should be fine. Caster at 5-7* positive - set the top around a 1/4 to 3/8 inch shorter than the bottom for starters And make sure your hardware is all threaded in well- not good to have one of those fail! I used the Speedway 27" (bare) hairpins on this coupe and had no problems.(suicide front end)
Frame came from Brookville with brackets welded. Speedway hairpins. I know it's short 3 inches but can't find 30 inch hairpins.
Return them and call pete and jakes, if you talk to them they can make any length at the same cost as set length. best call i ever made when I needed hairpins.
Thanks for the help sponge .I'll give them a call . I would cut the brakes and move it .but it wouldn't be in the correct spot on the 32 frame.
Easy to lengthen 3". The chrome would be a problem. I think there is a post on doing that. I will look. I ran an adapter on a set years ago but they were painted.
Yep, call Brookville and ask what hairpins they made the brackets for. Hot rods aren't universal. Parts from one vendor don't always fit parts from another.
Agreed 100%- don't cut or modify anything without asking the Brookville guys what kind of parts fit the frame they sold you. I didn't realize the brackets were already a done deal.
I want to thank all you guys for your help ! contacted Brookville roadster. The hair pins that they set my frame up with came from Pete and Jakes. Done some measuring and got some new ones ordered. Thanks again!
My frame is the same and I got my hair pins from P&J. Going to assemble soon, hope they are correct !
30 & 5/8 is the measurements on my new hairpins. I measured from center of spring perch to the mounts on frame .
