I used to use G.M. E. O. S. as an ***embly lube years ago. Does anybody know of the current part number and is it still the good stuff we used to use? I have done a google on it and have come up with a couple of part numbers: #1052367 and #88862586. Are either of these numbers valid and again does it have all the zinc it used to? Thanks, Mike.
I think EOS was discontinued but GM markets an ***embly lube that is supposed to replace the old EOS. I believe the zinc was the problem and I'd wager that the new stuff has no zinc. I have a "private stock" stashed from my old Service Manager days. You still might find some at an older dealership under the 1052367 number. The 88862586 number is ancient.
Why would you want to use that stuff today with all the new ***embly and cam lubes that are available? Yeah, "back in the day" I used it too, mixed it half and half with STP to give it some body and "stickey". But with all the good stuff on the market now from cam and bearing companies, why use old tech stuff? Dave
I walked into the local Chevy Dealer yesterday and asked for #88862586. He said he didn't stock, but that there was stock two doors up at the GMC dealer as well as the next Chevy Dealer. I drove up the road 100yds, and the guy said yep, he had in stock and that he had never sold any before. He asked me why I wanted it as a matter of curiosity. Bought two pints. 22 bucks each was a little pricey!
All I know is when i was working parts for a sprint cup nascar team And that stuff got rare for a while I was calling every dealer in the country trying to find it. Toyota wanted it run in all of their sprint cup race engines they sent us. I figure it must be good for something.
I think you'll find most U.S. GM dealers stock it as #88862586. It used to be labeled as "Engine Oil Supplement" but is now listed as "E.O.S. ***embly Lubricant". The label still shows that it contains Zinc Dialkydithiophosphate (ZDDP) but who knows in what percentage compared to the older formulation.
I searched the 88862586 number and Summit came up. They say it was replaced by 88862587 and they will sell you a bottle for just under $24.00 plus their $10.00 "handling" fee.
