The car was built a few times over the years, but the last time was early 80's when the scallops were added as you can see. He is in his late 70's. This was just the latest thing in the 80's. CNC machines were new and everybody went nuts. The push was for everything as modern as possible with a vintage body. So back about 1982 this was state of the art! lol

Very cool that you'll finally get it. Great that the 32 will see road time once again.

Nice car. Were you lucky enough to find the front to be a drop axel? That was the M-2 era or the last of the clipped frames.

Great find, whatever you do with the car keep him involved and stop by to take him for a coffee or something in it.

I'd get the car up and running in current configuration, in all its 80's glory, and show it off a bit. It screams street rod, but it's a time capsule. Put a few miles on it before tearing it down.

Earlier post stated a Corvair clip, which was popular before the M2 took over. It's big and clunky looking and should be the first thing to go in favor of a dropped straight axle. Boy, it sure is easy to spend other folks money!

It has a Corvair style independent front suspension. Fortunately it was a bolt in unit so the original frame is not messed up and easily changeable. He may also have a lot of the drop axle parts in his stash.

Plan is to get it running, polish and clean and put a few miles on it before making any major decisions. Since I paint, I may pull the hood sides off for the originals and panel paint the graphics off of it to make it straight black. Loose the western wheels and search for the right set. I have a mint set of 80' wire wheels I may throw on it while it's still rollin it's 80's vibe.

The 56 is spread out all over the place and it will take more time and effort to retrieve it, but yes, I plan on digging that one out too. From what I know so far, it is a real super solid and straight old truck. But the 32 is first on the list.

Great find, and you have played it right up to this point with the old man.
Just a word of advice from an old man (I'm 78), when you get the '32 in your hands, clean it up, get it roadworthy AS IS and keep it that way till you have gone thru his entire stash and bought what you want that he will sell.
Don't pull off the street rod stuff till you're satisfied you have bought all you want to get. You just might cause the old man to get pissed at you if you change his creation just now. Be patient, drive it and enjoy it as it is till you're real sure you have all the stuff you want to buy. If he built that car and is unaware of how much things have changed as to hot rod style since then, you may offend him to the point he will balk at selling anymore to you.
Just a word of caution from an old man!

I'm not trying to "work" the guy. He has to move a good distance away and has to clear out his whole stash. So it is a situation that works out good for both of us because a lot of the stuff is just clutter. The kind of stuff you keep because you think you may need it some day, but you never do. There will be some jewels in the bunch, but the labor hauling most of the junk will make it a even sum scenario.

The cool part is listening to him talk about the old days, the cars he built, the way he knows what every little piece in every little box is or what it came from. When I get the 32 roadworthy again I'm thinking of letting him take his wife out to dinner in it one more time. :)

Yeah, I guess I missed that. The bolt in swap is a lot better than having to grind and clean up for a couple of days. It would be nice to cash in on some extra parts. Looks like you have it under control.

Cool find. Quite a few of those 80's and 90's style street rods still driving around up here, totally untouched and much loved by their owners/builders.

Cheezy as all get-out but you gotta respect how much love they put into those cars at that time. It's hard to think of a brightly colored scalloped street rod as an 'old man's car' but we're getting to that point.

This looks like one of the better ones, it could be great with minimal changes, lots already there to work with.

Great find! It all goes back to when the car was built and seeing what the "cool" trend was at the time. I remember when Western Bullits were the hot ticket! Those high back buckets are a real trip! Congratulations on your "find" and your interest in letting him have one more last drive.

I think it is really cool you found it in the first place - the rest is just histories, memories, and stories to tell ..... whatever you do it will be back on the road where it belongs!

Wow, I'd even offer to help by taking it off your hands. :D I couldn't live knowing that I had a car under covers out the back that I wasn't driving

Well, tomorrow is the big day it sees sunlight for two decades. The plan is to push it out and slide it on the trailer. It's always a fun day digging a cool car out and getting to see it outside. I'll take some pics and post em up.
