Can anyone recommend a good rebuilder for my 55 Ford steering box? Thanks!

I used Redhead Steering Gears. Couldn't be happier with the results.

I contacted Redhead and they told me it would be a "custom rebuild" that would be $500.00 plus shipping. Seems like a good company, but I didn't anticipate spending that much. I guess you get what you pay for! Thanks for the lead!

They pretty much told me the same thing for my 56. It ended up being around $480 with shipping. I contacted several rebuilders and they were all in that price range. I had a couple tell me a lot less but it sounded to good to be true. You could try Lare Corp. They are pretty good also.

rebuilt mine myself-wasn't that hard. I had press work(worm gear & sector shaft bushings) done at local machine(transmission shop). Cup-o-cake to re***emble

For that kind of money it might be worth looking into a Jeep or Borgeson box.

It's my understanding that both those require frame mods. And in my situation they won't work with a column shifted 3 speed. In all honesty the one in my car lasted 60 years before needing a rebuild and will (should) last me the rest of my life.

Agreed 56longroof. Sooooo, maybe I shouldn't be so cheap, and just pay the $500.00 and be done with it! :D:D

That's pretty much what I decided. Time and lack of certain tools is what determined my decision.
