I'm ready to mount my rearend and am thinkin' of building my own 4-link with some DOM tubing. Anyone here built their own? What size tubing should I get? I want to thread the tubing 5/8" fine for rod ends. Probably run the lower bars parallel and the top bars at angles. Any tips, advice and/or pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Josh
yes the trangelated four bar in my 54 is scratch built. i think 5/8 rod ends are alil small for a 4/ bar, i would go with 3/4 rod ends and the tubing I.D.to match the tap for the rod end you use. you can also use weld in bungs that are already taped.
were would you be able to find the bungs, i've been thinking of building a set of my own to just havn't had the time.
Seems to fit my feeble memory that I used 7/8 .156 wall. It was a direct thread for 5/8 fine thread. I used polyurethane bushings on mine but it wasn't a high powered racer either.
ch***isshop.com or morrison, has the spuds,... rick jones (quartermax) webside is really stupid..... he gives actual dimensions of all his brackets..... use 5/8 Hole 3/4 shaft heims, and the four link will hold up to anything.... LUKESTER
In the early seventys I made the rear 4 bar type set up on my 1930 pickup truck,,,,,I used 4 Impala/Caprice rear sway bars and cut one end off each one and threaded them to fit Speedway Motors female rod ends,,, I made the batwing mounts that weilded to the axle out of plate steel with a torch and grinder,,,turned out good and the last time I saw the truck a couple of years ago it still had that set up. I built my own rear 4 bar set up. Used the Ch***is Shop for weld in bungs (3/4" x 16) and bought the tubing they fit in locally. Also bought the hemjoints from Ch***is Shop at the same time to save on shipping. I just used 2" x 1/4" flat bar to make my brackets. Mine was a little different because I used a mid-80s truck axle with spring plates, unmodified. I built the suspension to bolt on with the U-bolt hardware. I ended up going for parallel link set-up just because it's easier to set up right, and has more forgiveness due to adjustability. I hope this helps you out.
i have been looking for some information on a triangulated 4 bar as well as well havent had much luck bttt for ya bill
Heres mine... I used the 7/8 DOM tubing with 3/4 Heims.... I am not a fan of the weld in bungs... They look kinda horsey to my eye.............
Industrial Ch***is, El Polacko on the HAMB, did mine. Next to my Ed Roth signed weird-oh shift knob, it's one of the neatest features on my truck! Hooks up so good I can't even break the tires loose most of the time! (no way it could be my underpowered engine or my tall gears. NO WAY!) Get a hold of him.
