Hey guys looking to identify ford 11'' 5 by 4.5''pitch brake drum???? Will measure off set if needed. Does any body know what year/model these would be from.?? There will be somebody out there who would be able to tell me straight away
Not sure I know what you mean. Is this it? http://www.speedwaymotors.com/New-11-x-2-1-4-Ford-Brake-Drums,27028.html
A photo would help but even so there's variation. They used the same drums on all sorts of different trucks and cars and aftermarket replacement measure the same but may not have the same look. Example, the stock drum might have ribs or grooves and the replacement is smooth. What's the situation your dealing with that might make us more useful.
Some '70s wagons had 11" brakes they were 5 on 4.5. the trucks were 5 on 5 I think, but the Broncos came in 5 on 4.5 in the later years and some of them had 11" brakes. If they are rears they would only be from a big bearing 9" rear. Those should all have the same stand off on the axle so the backing plates should all be the same.
The brake liner faces measure about 2. 1/8 so I'm thinking its to suit 2" brake liners. Centre spigot hole measures 2. 7/16.
The hat being higher on the drum and the center hole diameter are throwing me off.. I was thinking early Bronco as the width of drum could also take a 1 .3/4" shoe.
Yes the offset of the drum is strange...The 62 station wagon and 67 Galaxy [police cruiser w/disc front] both have the 11-1/32 drums with 2" plus [2-1/4 per Napa] wide shoes..Some cars used that same drum/brakes on the front also before disc brakes with a wider shoe [2-1/2 per Napa] I think..The set of after market 11" brakes I have are flat face and the shoe area is just about 3" wide..Makes me question as to why the shoes are only a hair over 2" wide, can't remember where I bought them from..Edit: Summit..
""I have a '59 car 9" small bearing rear with 11"x1-3/4" brakes"" Rich B..Yes you are right..I put same 9" in my Comet [72] but the small bearing was an odd ball, maybe HD for Station Wagon..If I remember right the drums are still pretty much flat with the narrow shoes accommodated by less backing plate off-set..
@RICH B I was talking late model and I have yet to see them on a small bearing rear. The shoes are wider then yours like about 2" as I recall. Looks like @seb fontana has some for a small bearing late model rear.
""Looks like @seb fontana has some for a small bearing late model rear."" No, I think I got shafted by summit..Edit: While the actual shoe width is pretty close to 2-1/4" it would have been nice if the lining width was close in stead of being 2-1/16"...
The pictured drum is a Kelsey Hayes if that helps. Usually the lining is 1/2" narrower that the measured contact surface of the drum.
