What are my options for a floor shifter on my c6? I'd like a tall one but need one with a ratcheting feature. So far I think I'm stuck with the B$M's Quick Silver. That means I need a console to hide the mechanism and I don't know how easy it'd be to modify its length. Any suggestions?......... slim

  2. I used a shifter out of a 80's mustang, it took some fidiling around with to work right but it works. i just cut the t handle off and slid a 36" chunk of aluminum pipe over it to make it a tall shifter. As for B&M shifters, i bought a mega shifter once, it was like $200 bucks and was absolute garbage, looked like hell, didnt work right and the stupid handle would never stay straight

That 200 bucks is hard for me to swallow. However, I do need something to bang the gears with no worries. I don't want to hit 2nd and end up in nuetral or worse.....REVERSE.:( Is there a way to make stock shifter ratchet?........slim

  4. Unless you shift like paul walker in fast an furious u should have no problem, the harder you slam it aint gonna make it go faster, espescially if its an automatic, my truck is pretty much a drag strip rat, i race it every weekend and i have never once shifted into 3rd trying to get second let alone hit reverse and i have no lock out at all

I like the Pro-Matic (now called the Hurst Pro-Matic II). It's ugly on the box, but if you toss the goofy plastic cover and the dopey knob, it's a compact ratchet shifter that operates easily and ratchets both forward and backwards in the 1-2-D positions.

A shift boot can be made to cover the shift mechanism, but the handle isn't very tall. That could be an easy fix, though...cut the handle off and make your own to replace it...weld or bolt it on and go!

Get the mustang one and mod it to fit. You should have no trouble finding one at a swap meet/wrecking yard. It's designed to work your transmission, it's a genuine Ford part, and it's a cheap solution:D Cooler to say you worked it in, rather than bought it off a shelf.

    My two cents,
