The same chit, a 9" diff to fit my '50 Ford. I had a bead on one but it wasn't what was advertised. Spare door/panels to scavenge for the top chop and body repair.
Also miscellaneous parts for friends' '50 Ford wagon, '59 Ranchero, etc.

On drives to Houston on 290 from Austin I've p***ed what looks to be a goldmine for 50's cars in a yard on the south side of the road. Wasn't smart enough to write the name down.

65 acres, nada on the diff. :(

Are salvage yards around CenTex really that scarce and old car stuff that rare? This Ford diff search is getting depressing and I have cash burning a hole... maybe there's a swap meet around here this weekend...

Hang in there. I looked for fenders for a year. Of course....they were found on that 65 acres.

John's Salvage south of Seguin is a pretty rad place. Even if you don't find what you need it's a nice place to spend some time walkin around. Phone number is 1-800-397-9648 and the address is 2020 Fox Trotter Road..down south of I-10 off of Hwy 123

Saw another thread on this within the last couple of days and can understand why there'd be some reluctance to post. Funny thing is I have lead on a good place from a friend and I didn't even post it... probably for the same reasons, subconsciously.

Anyway, I sincerely need stuff, appreciate the help so far, if there are any others just PM me... I won't post anywhere.

    thanks

Thanks to help from HAMB it looks like I've found some 57-59 9" Ford diffs. More than one, that is.

They ain't exactly cheap else I'd try to buy all of them. I was pondering giving up and ordering a Currie, but this is a few hundred bucks less and I have a friend who rebuilds them so hopefully make up the difference a bit there.

I second John's in Sequin...awesome place to just go and seems to have alot of 50's cars. Only 62 caddy parts car I've found locally for myself.

    good luck

That guy you are talking about on 290 is close to Giddings right? I stopped in there before and he only sells all of those cars complete, he will not part.
oh well, still fun to break my neck getting a look at what hes got in there every time I drive by!

I don't understand this reluctance to share boneyards. Buy up what you want then share them. If rodders regularly visit these places and buy up the junk then the owner makes a profit and doesn't crush his stock of old cars. Yards no one knows of crush the cars for $250 a ton when the price of steel is high. Sharing the yards is the best way to guarentee their survival.

John's in Seguin has about a dozen 49-51 fords if you're looking for those parts. I also saw a Buick with 45 fin drums on it... and some other goodies I'd like to have.

I agree with sharing the wealth on junkyards and locations... if its a yard full of cars, what's the likelyhood you're gonna buy all of it up anyway? Just my 2 cents though.

I spent yesterday at John's Salvage. Thanks for the lead on this place. it was like Disneyland and a well-run business.
I found a'57 rear-end, complete with drums and e-brake cables (3.70 : 1) and a Volvo steering box. Last of each, by the way, though there are a few more 57-59 axle housings there without 3rd members. There are at least a couple Maverick 8" rears out there.
The owner's a Ford guy, with a pretty nice '49 club coupe. There's a ton of interesting stuff ... saw a '31 Chevy sedan body/ch***is, lots of variety - Studebakers, Imperials, Edsels, Hudsons, etc. etc.
