Non-Bagged Bulletbirds?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by ThunderRocket, Mar 3, 2006.

  1. I just rebuilt the front-end on my 62 and it sits at least 2 inches higher.

I need to cut the coils I figure, but how many.
    What worked for you?

This what it looked like before and I liked it.

Drive it a while, (a couple months) to let the new bushings & springs(?) settle in before over doing it.
I like those cut just a couple inches in the rear just to get the back bumper down.

  5. My wife thought I pulled the engine!

    I can't drive it to Round-up looking like a g***er.

Ill get more pics during Round-up, that one is thanks to HankCash on the way back from the Drags.

when you rebuilt the frontend, did you install new rubber bushings? If so, they often have to be installed with a "set". You raise the control arms up to ride height, and then tighten the bolts on them up. It would probably be easiest while the car is on a lift and sitting on it's tires. Rubber will bite into the surrounding metal, and act like a spring, help holding the car up. So the trick is to get it to bite in the right spot so they aren't holding the car up so much.

Also, springs age and sag, if you replaced those they're going to be taller, even if they are built to spec.

  7. It just turned over 56k but the lower bushings were shot. // \\

I replaced them and ball joints, tie rods and new shocks.

There is no preload on the bushings.

It seems to be near stock height but with 2" blocks in the rear looks funny.

I could remove the blocks but it looks "dead ***y" lowered 2". :)

  8. I'd also like to see pics of a 61-63 Bag set up.

Slice out a coil and get it aligned. :)

Drive it, then after the roundup see where it settles to.

For pictures, I'm sure someone can procure an orcabetty
to sit on the hood to lower front.

Poncho, that's a good looking bird.

    TR,
You can help me engineer and install the air suspension on the Aquamino
for practice. :D I should have the back done before the roundup.

I agree.....take em back out and cut one loop off. It'll come down 2.5-3" and then in a year, it'll be down another inch....just right. I like to cut down the rubber snubbers too. I leave about 1/2 inch of rubber on them.
If it's too low for ya after a year, bag it.
