Gearing up for headliner install in 41 Cpe. Interior was gutted and I have no reference to how headliner was installed. Got headliner kit from Lebanon Bonney with instructions that are pretty straight forward. I'm having a problem understanding how windlace attaches .are there any tack strips in this vehicle and if so where should they be? According to instructions headliner fabric is glued around rear and quarter Windows and that's it.no fasteners. Is this correct? Any tips for pointing me in the faith direction would be great! Thanks

Have you ever installed one before? Mostly on the side they do have Tack strips.
the type of glue you use will determine your success and how much time you take getting the wrinkles out.

This will be my first I had an upholsterer lined up but decided to give it a go as he is 70 miles away would be a cold ride with rear windows out. They tell me a steamer is used to remove small wrinkles.

I believe there is a rubber tack strip running vertically on the b pillar...1/2" wide.

heres the b piller. looks like b piller cardboard had tacks in it then w****d in cloth(headliner) and then tapped into tack strip.I don't know how else the tacks could be under cloth cover.also headliner wraps around plate around light.

also it looks like headliner was glued around windshield then held in with garnish molding. see first pics theres a few around top of windshield.let me know if you need anything else.maybe I can take the b piller piece off tomorrow if that helps u figure it out.rear window looks like it tucks under seal like others said.

I did mine many years ago, start at the front and work back, front is glued from memory. You have to take the back window out, glue the liner around it and put the window back in. Goes back in from the inside .

Thanks a million for the pics must of been fun removing that. Yes my instructions state the b pillar panel is tacked in first then covered with fabric. Can't wrap my head around how fabric finishes at the front of this panel at the windlace. Done this way would be a raw edge at windlace. Seems like panel should be wrapped first then installed.

What if you w****d the windlace side then tacked it in while holding fabric up then pulled fabric around towards back to window garnish and tucked it under.then the garnish would hold it?

yup they tacked it in with fabric w****d around front windlace side thru windlace then tucked in fabric ends then w****d it towards back.garnish holds it.notice they put that brown horse hair or whatever padding under it,make sure its thick enough so garnish is tight on fabric.maybe a little glue wouldn't hurt but I didn't see any.good luck. I would like to see pics of lebaron kit as that is what I was thinking of getting.how is the quality of it?

looks like headliner would go in first the top of b piller piece seems to go over the headliner just a bit.

Tet****, that "B" pillar dome light is insanely kool. Is that the original? I gotta get me 2 of those, dammit...!

  18. I'm following this too...

My 49 needs a headliner. Old one just collapsed in the back. No insulation up there other than the original tar felt square. We plan on using bubble or foam insulation under the final headliner. Someone said they had great luck with Liquid Nails like adhesive keeping it in place.

And my trim guy says the back window will probably have to come out! Which is probably OK since the original rubber is rock hard and leaks.

Yes that sounds right quarter window garnish would hide tacks. Also after eyeballing there is a channel that runs up front of quarter that tack strip Tucks in then tabs bend over to retain tack strip. Also same size channel down a pillar to tack windlace to. Thanks again will let u know how it goes.

no its not tacked by quarter window.Only along tack strip/thru cardboard and windlace and the fabric that is on the back side. so you got to put fabric around front edge of cardboard (windlace side) tack thru cardboard, fabric(that is on back side) then windlace. THEN pull fabric back towards side window garnish and tuck top and bottom in.then put garnish on.it is not tacked by garnish only in the tack strip by windlace. LOOK at last 2 pics you can see the rusty tack heads.

On my '41 Fordor the piece that has the interior light is removable. Material is wrapped around and installed. there are "nail" like studs(look like drywall nails in the backer board)) that fit into thin sheet metal pieces with corresponding holes that are attached to the pillar. Smack at the correct spot and they snap in place.

Ok got it attach fabric to rear of panel on windlace side tack on panel then wrap and tuck. Garnish retains back of panel. As far as quality it looks good but not cheap. 45$ up charge for black 40$ for extra yard to do visors. 380$ total with ship. Sorry don't know how to post pictures on here. Thanks again for info

Well got it in turned out pretty good sorry I can't post pics.ended up with a few wrinkles around the rear window I should have trimmed the selvedge or sleeve off where it meets the flange as it causes a hump that rear window rubber does not cover. Yes I used bubble foam on roof also used 3m spray with red label sorry don't remember type but is made for headliner. Holding off on b pillar trim as I'm trying to locate courtesy lights.thanks to all for advise and a few tips keep your hands clean, pull or stretch fabric at seams only and take your time. Thanks again
