""It seems like every idiot and their brother has jumped on the bandwagon with a "cause" and car show or cruise! Most of them wouldn't know a good hot rod or custom if it ran them over on the freeway!""

this is one of the major problems in our country right now, too many people coming up with ways to make money for good causes. this has got to stop now! o_O

Read the classic book "How to Win Friends and Influence People" (it's not what you think) and then write a nicely worded letter about how you appreciate the hard work they put into the show and provide a list of possible categories for next year that might suit the crowd that shows up better. I bet you'll get exactly what you want.

We do a show at a retirement home every year. It's great. No trophies. The nurses bring the residents out to see the cars and it's priceless to hear them reminisce about their good old days.

How dare idiots put on a car show! Only experts should be allowed to do that!
Some people have serious things with which to concern themselves, such as my daughter who was paralyzed from the neck down in a car accident 5 1/2 years ago. She can't dress herself, feed herself, use the toilet, etc. She has to ask someone to do literally EVERYTHING for her. She never complains. She says she is glad to be alive because there is so much beauty in the world.
Then there are people who just like to whine, complain, and bellyache. It is, of course, your privilege to do so but I have two suggestions: 1. Get a life. 2. Put on the perfect car show and show us all how it is done.

Yep I just go to judge the boobies. In my book they all win fist prize.

If winning a trophy is important to you. You should re-evaluate your priorities in life. Great to hear you donated to that good cause regardless. I

  10. There where these folks who made their living promoting car shows. They had annual show at the state park. My eldest son became that parks superintendent. They had the show and he discovered the park was paying for the trophies and park personell where doing the work and the promoters where the ones who make & sell the trophies and made the money. So when he presented his yearly budget to the directors he didn't ask for any money to fund the car show. The folks came and where planning the show. He stated yes you can use the facilities for free. But your on your own your responsible for everything. No taxpayer sponsorship money is budgeted. That was it no car show at Lake Charles State Park any longer.

Hi. My 46 Chevy coupe daily driver that's looking all stock except for the shined up 235 engine never has a good class if I even cared about winning. I am definitely there entered for the reasons of both 3W Larry - traditional boobies on view as well as El Caballo - Good place to park, to sit, rest, eat, & lots of bullshit.
Even with no good class I am almost always the only Chevy there with a tricked out inline 6 & the public coming to look at the cars really likes what they see. The public spends much more time looking over my coupe & much more time stopping to talk with me then any of the older Chevies with the small block V8's converted running gear. They do like mine.

I go to many local shows for the reasons I stated above & that works well for me & I enjoy the day. At least I don't have to be bothered dusting off cheap plastic trophies.

I ran a show for 5-6 years If I had a class that wasn't filled I would find a way to fill it and go talk to the folks that would fall into that "new" class. People thought that was so cool. Gave them a better chance for that award. Some organizers think the classes have to be locked. Not me. I had 90 awards to hand out. I was not taken them home.

If the only reason I was going was to win a trophy, I'd stay home and buy a lottery ticket. I say that because I've never been to a show that I've agreed with the judges on who won in all of the classes. If you're not there to have fun and enjoy the day, you shouldn't be there.

I agree that a lot of car shows are a bit lame and most of the organizations running them are not real car guys, but then you have folks like Mickey Bryant (straykatkustoms) who,(with the help of alot of other car guys and gals) put on two of the best shows in our region. Yea they have "trophies" and the two I have recieved sit proudly in my home because they were given to me by folks I know and respect.
Guess my point is not all shows are lame and not all recognition is given out by clueless judges.
Just my two cents. Sorry if I embarassed you Mick:).

We like to go to local shows if they are for a good cause. There are several well organized and well run shows in our area. Many times we take two 40's. Really have no interest in the trophies. Just like to enjoy the day and visit with folks.

  19. My two cents...There are shows and then there are events like LSRU as example. I'll drive hours to attend events and won't even drive minutes to lawn chair, pouty baby shows with trophies for new vettes. I go for the real cars, inspiration and meeting new and old friends.

It is kind of funny that they use your cars for advertising there show and don't even have a class for the cars. I gave up on the trophy thing years ago I register the car and throw the tag under the seat it's more fun that way besides half the cars in my class are family or friends that you drive there with. All said and done I hope I get some trophy points for this post.:p

It was 'setup night' at a Calif show I won't mention, so as not to name the Bagdasarian who directed placing the entries.:D
I had my Dad's '29 full fendered '29 roadster, was asking for a spot.
Mr. Bagdasarian had a paper, was orating directions: "Okay, starting here: 'Red car, then black car...Blues and yellows, get a count. Oh, uh...Mikey. Your Dad's car's green..."
    By color. Right.
Turned out I ended up in a corner spot (YAY!) so I saw everybody that was there, if I stayed around.
Sam Foose's '48 custom was there, so was the fabulous yellow '27 'Roachster'. (Bill Roach's masterpiece...was judged harshly, as the fat judge couldn't sit behind the wheel!)
We took 2nd place Street Roadster. Pop was 'pleased as punch'! Not so with the ISCA sticker they forced us to place on the windshield...That came off outside the closing portals right after judging!

I went to a Joe Gibbs Racing car show and there were some rich retired types who were professional show their trailer queen cars at shows. They collect trophies. I overheard one guy telling another guy that if so and so didn't win again, they were telling the promoter that they were never going to another one of his shows. Don't think there's not politics involved. Car show trophies for the most part are B.S.

I try to attend events to drive to versus shows involving classification and trophies. Just funner shows in my opinion. I check out the trophies (boobies) and girls floating the lure sort of speak pretty much everywhere I go.:D

Most "car shows" are put on by promoters who are trying to sell shit and make money.
There's a local burger joint that has cruise nights all summer. They ask you to donate $2. to drive in and display your car. They give out $7. trophies and sell tons of crappy food and T-shirts for way too much money. Spectators get in FREE! but they usually have a couple of kids, and by the time they leave Dad's out 20 to 30 bucks. They always tell me my coupe is a street rod, and I always explain No, it's a hot rod. The kids that take the $2 don't know( or care) what you're talking about, and mumble something unintelligible ,and keep texting. I stopped going a few years ago.

I'd rather hook up with a few people, drive to a joint, and have the "car show" happen spontaneously. You park the cars and people will start asking you about them. Kids are always fun to talk to, and old people will come up and say "I learned to drive in one of those." Much more enjoyable.

I got a bunch of old hockey trophies at the local dump, and I like to give them out at get togethers as jokes. They make nice hood ornaments too.

And Boobs? Well, that's a whole new subject...........................

I do, as well, but some of the aftermarket boobies are pretty nice, too. My adult offspring refer to them
as "bolt ons". Their mother is so proud!

I don't need no stinking trophy either. And I sure as hell aint gonna pay someone to park my car so the public can see it easier.
I do enter fund-raiser type events but other than those I park outside, walk in and look at all the cars for free.

I haven't entered a car show in years. The best are a group of people getting together, driving somewhere, and meeting some people from somewhere else. Have a bite to eat. B.S. a bit and drive home.

Going to a show, listen to people crying about why they should win a trophy and sitting there for 4 hours is something I no longer understand.

  30. The only "car show" I take part in is our local Wed.night cruise....they call it a cruise but the cars are parked in a parking lot and we all check each other's cars out...it's more of a social gathering and there's a bar and grille adjacent to the parking lot for eats and drinks.
There's no charge, no judging, no classes............just friends getting together for a few hours to catch up on hot rod/customs news
