A Canadian altered with a long history. BB/A winner at Indy in the early 60's under the ownership of Miller & Gregory. Raced by Canadian Top Fuel standout Scott Wilson. At the time of this shot the car was owned by Brooke DeShaw and ran as a B/A with a 301 cubic inch Chevrolet. Really well built race car.
One of my favorites from when I was a kid. An Oklahoma car that was ALWAYS in the hunt on a national level. It's interesting to watch the evolution of the roll cages in the pictures.
Another "no coast" (West Texas) car that none of the competition wanted to see roll through the gate.
They would be great pictures for the "Drag Cars In Motion" thread! Michelle's avatar is definitely an altered.
Thank you sorry about that I'm a newbie my Dad use to race Fuel Altereds in So Cal and he raced other type of cars . I'm trying to learn my way around the forum Sent from my SM-G900P using H.A.M.B. mobile app
I thought he did. Easy enough to confuse when your just startin' out. basically an altered has a car body of some sort and you sit in front of the axle. A digger the body is hand made either glass or tin and the driver sits behind the axle, actually just his sittin part is behind the axle his legs are usually draped over the top of the axle. Think of it like a tire swing, your feet are on one side of the tire and your patoot is on the other.
Thank you . My Dad never explained it that way . He would just say I drove dragsters and Fuel Altereds. He use to race in Southern California at Lyons racetrack and other tracks . He just past away in October I'm trying to share his lagcy with the racing community. I have so many pictures and I was real young when he raced I have more memory of spending time with him watching his friends race and helping them out at the racetrack on weekends. Cool! Now post the altereds here, and the dragsters in the Drag Cars In Motion Thread. Welcome to the HAMB and to drag racing, your pics are great, just not in this thread! Again, don't sweat it and have some fun!!
Yea sounds like we both grew up in the pits. Your dad wasn't stuck with a simple mind like I got I suspect. I explain things different because I understand things a little slower than most.
Yeah ..There is a lot of pictures of me with a lot of grease on my face and clothes. Sent from my SM-G900P using H.A.M.B. mobile app
My friend Jay Fishbeck (RIP) painted Nanook and Big Bah Thompson, gold leafed, lettered and striped it. Pic's courtesy of Jay's son JJ>
A few more. Unknown Fiat coupe Unknown B/A coupe "different" header routing "Boss Six" D/A injected coupe. "Hellfire" B/ A small block Chevy powered roadster. Note the wheel cover to allow for more roll out.
I can't believe this one has not been posted yet. This car started the fan interest in fuel altereds and the show they could put on.
