Hot Rods ID help: 1933 Ford Roadster or Coupster

I am trying to figure out if this is a coupester or roadster. Trouble is that I only have these 3 photos.

1. Any experts able to 100% tell which this is?
2. If it is a coupster anyone know if it was a 3 window or a 5?
3. Is it a 33? or a 34?

 

I was just sent this pic too... not sure what the stripes are about but it helps.

 

The pics aren't perfect but if it is what I think I'm seeing, it is a steel '33 Ford roadster. Not likely a coupster. There a lot more involved than meets the eye when turning a coupe into a roadster. It can and has been done, not always successful. So, if I'm not mistaken (since I'm not there to do a visual) it is a real roadster. Tim (I've had one that I un-channelled plus a couple of coupe bodies I played with)

thanks for all the help guys, I am trying to finalize a deal on this and it is helpful to know the originality since it is all over the phone.

 

There looks to be a seam straight up the trunk gutter line, which would be there on a roadster but not a coupe. Probably not too many guys who would recreate that seam when making a coupster. And the cowl seems a bit longer as mentioned above as well. The closeup pic of the cowl top looks legit, but if I was making a coupster one of the first parts I would buy is a repro cowl top from Steve's Auto.

Roadster doors are framed in wood. Coupe doors are all steel.

 

are the doors interchangeable ?

 

I sure hope you are not trying to make the complete deal over the phone. Find someone local to look at it, if it p***es this test then go see it yourself. There could be a lot of problems hiding that will show up when someone sees it in person. An exception might be if you could get it very cheap but hat brings up the old saying, "if it seems to good to be true, it probably is". Be careful, there are a lot of scammers out there. Is the paperwork clean?

I agree with Charlie here, I looked at two cars in January for HAMB members that could not be here to look. It isn't hard to find someone to take a gander at it if you are really interested.

By the way my thoughts is that it started out life as a roadster.

 

Trouble is a great deal you gotta hold close... Deal is done thanks for the input, I'll let you know how it is when it gets here.

 

I think its a 33 roadster, for several reasons. one is the hood latch, and another is the dash.

 

another rookie 33 question, but I figure you all must know.... how different are the 33/34 frames from the 35-36?

 

Totally different. I'm bettin it's a real roadster looking at the cast brackets/mounts for the windshield and the depth from the hood opening to the door opening is correct.

Hard to tell as you can change lots of things in the conversion. Someone mentioned the wood in the doors and cowl area. This is the best thing to look for. The SAR units are all steel and would be a good score also. Looks like a real one. Good luck, lets us know.
