  2. Wouldn't it save a lot of work to just dump the gas into a 5 gallon bucket and light it off?

  3. Actually you pour a puddle of race gas on the ground, back into it and when you get your tires spinning you light it off. ;) But if your car won't spin 'em flame throwers is about all you got.

I actually had flame throwers on a car once when I was about 15 or 16. That was back before the day of solid state and propane, you used a pair of model t coils, pulled your choke and toggled them with a toggle switch on the dash.

That said I still like to watch one flame on at night, but I still like to burn one too. ;)

I saw that Caddy at the Hunnert Car Pileup. I had to leave before the flame throwing contest though. Thanks for posting, now I'm really bummed I had to leave early.

When I was a kid some guy in a wagon lit em up just as he was p***ing by. 3 to 4 foot flames at cruise speed, up and over the hill till he was out of sight. I don't know how he did it under load like that but it impressed the hell out of us. Probably was the inspiration behind our habit of taping fireworks to the back of our bikes on the 4th.

I fooled around with my '53 Vicky before selling it. I had a coil tester that ran off 12 volts, an oscillator that generated 25K volts. Hooked it up to a wired F14Y spark plug in each pipe, about 15" up from tailpipe. A Stewart-Warner electric pump from main fuel line fed the pipe with a flattened out steel line welded in at an angle.
High throttle and hit the switch...****! Flame shot out 25 feet back, igniting the dry gr*** along the chain link fence that separated my driveway from the Permanente Railroad tracks!
Burned 75+ feet of ugly gr*** before we could put it out!
Looked like a pair of WW ll napalm flame throwers!
Typical beer shenanigans after hours at my shop... I've grown volumes since then.
Now, I'd use a Bosch fuel injector in the pipe. :D

I bought a 49 chevy sedan that had flame throwers. that was the first thing I did was to take them off. that has to be the most stupid thing a person can do to a car.

I can't imagine what the consequences would be if someone was burned by one of those. Your car insurance would drop you like a hot-potato. There's probably something in the policy mumbo-jumbo that would exonerate them from liability and put it on, guess who?
