So rear end starts leaking on the drivers side rear. So I pull the half shafts, remove the old seals, drift in new seals, clean everything up, repack bearings, and button it all back up. Anything else I should/should have done? Differential was full to the level of the axle tubes and bearings seem solid. Any need to drain and refill the differential? Thanks!
Drain and refill is worth the effort IF you have 50,000 miles on the axle since the last change/rebuild. Otherwise, how often have you changed your daily? Then be sure to apply gasket seal to both sides of the backing plate to keep the oil in.
Make sure you put grease on the axle where the seal rides so that when you first start out it does not run on a dry axle!!
No emergency brake ? Pull the extra parts hooked to the trailing shoe ... and I'm wondering how you repack a sealed rear wheel bearing ..
Surprised no one noticed that the backing plate is on the wrong side. The one in the pic is for the left side and it's on the right side. Short shoe goes in front, parking brake lever should be to the rear.
