Buy what you need now, if you can still get it. Not sure if anyone else posted about this. I certainly did not see it.

    From their now defunct website:

    "Details
    Published: 25 March 2015
In January of 2015, MSD Performance purchased the ACCEL Performance Group. The MSDP Group, a global leader in vehicle aftermarket performance ignition and tuning technology, made the decision to merge the top two companies in the automotive ignition industry worldwide—MSD and Mallory. Mallory will no longer manufacture its product line after March 31st. However, MSD will produce and service Mallory distributor replacement parts such as caps, rotors, points, and nearly 100 other items."

MSD? Think they purchased a predecessor to restore its archival products?

Pretty sure they'll sell of what's left, doubt you'll see any new 2 piece sealed Mallory caps, or new heavy point sets...(or new 'super condensers'!)
A customer called MSD customer service some years back, said he had a problem with a Ford coil, could they answer a question. The rep said that was like calling the Hybrid Car agency and asking for a hitch for a Connestoga wagon.

Yes, MSD is part of the Holley Group.

Yeah, and that's why I posted it. I knew nothing of it, and did not remember anyone talking about it.

The Mallory website went down yesterday. I found the information while investigating.

It would be nice if they started making hard to find stuff again. Ingintion parts tend to fail without warning and it ****s not being able to find something you need or do not have a spare for without having to resort to eBay ..

Guess I better put my extra two-piece caps, points and condensers in the safe.

My local speed shop told me MSD bought out Mallory a couple months ago when I went in to buy Unilight, said no more Mallorys. I know they weren't as good as the use to be but I still liked them for the simplicity and hadn't had any more issues with them as I have with MSD, had module failures on both. I'll really miss them on the flatheads. MSD looks to modern and since you have to run a box with them it a lot more $$$. I guess the best way for a big company to eliminate the compe***ion is buy them out and kill them. .

I posted a while back about how we bought a new Mallory Unilite cap and rotor and how it did not fit the top of the distributor body correctly.........it was loose and slid around when clamped down. When I talked to Mallory about it, the tech was obviously frustrated and said "We've moved all our manufacturing to Mexico.......if you can find one of the original caps that were made in the USA, buy it," I could tell he was not happy with the decision his company made.

We went to Pep Boys and found one in stock that was the same coloration as the original we had, and it did fit well. The one from USA and the one from Mexico were different shades of red.

I've used a few Unilites over the years, with no problems, but I will not buy another one.

So what does this have to do with Accel which was mentioned in the original post? I reread the thread a couple of times and may have missed the connection between MSD, Mallory and Accel .

I too saw this recently. Maybe they will reserve the Mallory name for more vintage applications, and continue to develop the MSD line for modern applications?

    All one company now.

They are all under the Holley umbrella.

    Traditional?

old news, if you paid attention at the right time. I guess it was easy to miss if you didn't.

I haven't wanted any of their new stuff for a long time. It would be neat if they still made the old two piece caps and stuff to fit their old distributors, but all that good stuff was discontinued a long time ago. I don't really see any impact to me, or to anyone I know.

I guess getting my 80's 5" Mallory tach with shift light and rpm limiter recalibrated/fixed [twitches below 2k] is a lost cause.......****.......

How are they going to sell you their new junk if you can still buy the old stuff?

Honestly, I wasn't very impressed with Mallory stuff back in the late 70s, couldn't imagine the newer stuff was any better.

Just wait a few years, they will sell off the trademark name to some outfit in China and they will reproduce some real low quality junk. Gene

Why can't someone make a small diameter Chevrolet distributor, so Many firewalls don't have to be altered? I don't know much, Would it be that difficult?

The original 1955 chevy 265 distributor was pretty small....and it would be quite traditional if you are trying to build a car with the old look.

Chevrolet did. Every small block distributor made before the HEI came out. Aftermarket ones made every day.

Would anybody here spend the money for an offset distributor, if it means not having to rework a firewall?

I realize there is an option, to the front,
I wondered, Out loud, why there isn't a smaller diameter,
    I also realize a a 265 cu.in. is smaller than today's elephant's.
    Still listening.......
